iPadOS 13.1 “Update Apple ID Settings”

After upgrading to iPadOS and first hitting the issue of WiFi not working on my iPad Air 2, I’ve managed to put in place a workaround by using a combination of Open WiFi, MAC filtering and a hidden SSID in order to hopefully keep out unwanted intruders.

Now though, I am facing the issue of signing into my Apple ID account on my iPad. I wonder whether iPadOS simply doesn’t like passwords full stop!

After updating my iPad to 13.1, I began receiving the "Update Apple ID Settings" prompt in my Settings.

I tapped on 'Update Apple ID Settings' and selected continue...

Next, I entered my Apple ID Password as requested and tapped Sign In.

Next, I entered my iPad Passcode as requested.

Unfortunately, after performing the steps above the original "Update Apple ID Settings" prompt returned. I also noticed that my Touch ID was not working when trying to Unlock my iPad. I was prompted to enter my passcode; which unlocked my iPad.

Next, I went into my Settings | Touch ID & Passcode and added a new fingerprint...

Seems to have fixed everything as I am no longer prompted for "Update Apple ID Settings" and my Touch ID works.

I had the same issue - I installed 13.1.1 to two iPhone 8+ phones, and iPad Pro, and to an iPad Air-2; all four units went through the upgrade process, however, only the iPad Air-2 asked for my password to join my wifi router - the other three didn't ask and automatically signed onto the WiFi. I power cycled my modem/router from CenturyLink; I did a hard power restart on the Air-2; I did a reset of the network settings on the iPad; I even did a complete reset to the Air-2 and no luck. It still asked for the WiFi password, I'd enter it, it would loop for some time and come back without any errors to the password screen. I went to the Apple site, went to support, entered my Air-2 serial number and Support 800-692-7753 called me back. THE FIX: (1) power-off the iPad; (2) sign-off iTunes and sign back on; (3) plug the powered off iPad into my PC; (4) Hold the big iPad button on the bottom of the screen, keep holding it down; (5) plug the iPad into your PC; (6) iTunes recognizes it and asks if you want to do an "Update" or "Restore" - select restore; (6) the screen on the Air-2 turns black, then an image of a power cable going from the bottom of the screen toward the middle where there is a image of a computer; (7) at the top of the Air-2 is a message stating it is connected to apple and doing a restore; (8) don't do anything, just wait, the restore is from the last time you made a backup, for me it was 2016, yes, three years ago; (9) when the restore finished it automatically joined my WiFi network and started downloading the current apps that were a part of my previous backup; (10) when apps were downloaded I checked and the current iPadOS 13.1.1 was still there, the wifi worked and now I just cleaned up the apps I no longer needed; (11) I then reconnected the Air-2 to iTunes and did a backup - yes, it worked. Praise God!!!
