Moving messages stuck

On my MacBook Pro I added a Microsoft exchange account in Apple mail and moved quite a few emails from my inbox to another file within my email account for the purpose of being more organised. What I have found is that the emails have been removed from my inbox but have not gone into the file. At the bottom left of Apple Mail it states “Moving Messages” however it appears stuck and won’t progress. I have closed and restarted apple mail and I have opened it up in safe mode but it’s not helping. Is there anyway of cancelling move messages and sending the emails back to their original position or even recovering the emails somehow. Worryingly the emails have disappeared off the server as well. Any help would be appreciated.
