Screenshot bug

I actually really like the functionality of the command-5 screenshot, with its new features. HOWEVER: today after taking a screenshot (Capture Selected Portion option), the selected portion stays bright and the rest of my screen (both external and built in monitor) stay grayed out. I got things back to normal with a restart, but it happened again with the next screenshot I took. Anybody know what's going on?
