Problem extending network with airport express and time capsule

I have a time capsule as my router, working prerfectly for the last 5 years.

Now I need to extend my network because of weak locations. I use an airport express (A1264). After doing a hard reset I configure the AE to extend the curent wifi network with the airport tool on my mac. All goes well (green light on AE) but after a few second, the time capsule signal turns off, then back on after 30 seconds, then back off ..... In a loop.

I have tried with a different airport express and have the same problem.

Can anyone explain this?

Thanks

MacBook

Power off both the Time Capsule and AirPort Express

Wait a minute

As a test, temporarily move the AirPort Express to the same room or close proximity to the Time Capsule

Power up the Time Capsule and let it run a few minutes

Then, power up the AirPort Express

Check to see if the same turn off / turn on issue on the Time Capsule remains

Then, as a second test, temporarily power off the AirPort Express and check the Time Capsule over the next 15-20 minutes or so to see if the same turn off / turn on issue on the Time Capsule remains.
