Blank Page Printing

We have been having trouble printing PDFs sent to us from one company...ever since they got a new scanner / copier / printer. We can see the PDF just fine on our screens (currently using Preview version 10.1). But when we print, it comes out as blank page(s). We can print any other PDFs with no problems.

We did just upgrade our computers to Mac OS Mojave version 10.14.6. However, this issue was happening prior to that when we were still on High Sierra. One of our computers is even still on OS X Yosemite version 10.10.5, with the same results.

The printer / copier / scanner that we have is a Canon Image Runner C2550. I have tried updating the printer driver, uninstalling the printer, and reinstalling the printer on my computer...all to no avail.

The only piece of the puzzle that I do not know is what kind of scanner the other company changed to. However, on our end, we are able to see that the PDF says it is PDF version 1.4.

One of the test prints sent to me from the other company printed blank at our office. However, I was able to print it just fine at home from Adobe with a different printer.

Any ideas how to resolve this?

Canon shows a v10.18.0 UFRII driver for the IR2550 device released in May 2019 that indicates support through macOS 10.14.4. Is that the one you installed, and followed up with a Reset the Print System? If this is the case, then you may not be able to use Preview for viewing and printing. You may have to install Adobe Acrobat Reader DC in order to handle some obscure PDF functionality that Preview cannot digest in preparing the print content. Preview is neither a current nor full implementation of the PDF specification as is Acrobat Reader DC.

Before you go the Adobe Reader route, you may try booting (shift-key) into Safe Boot mode, attempt to print a few pages of the customer PDF, and then reboot normally. Then try again. Safe boot is doing a bunch of things and the boot process is longer.

Yes, that is the driver that I installed...followed by the Reset the Print System. I even restarted my computer after doing that and reinstalling the printer. I was wondering if we may have to install the Adobe, as that is the only thing I think at this point that we have not tried. We were thinking there may be "layers" in the PDF, but we are not finding any settings on the computer through Preview that would enable the printing to work.
