Iphone 11 Pro Extreme lens flare

Hi,

I took some low light footage on my iPhone 11 pro and it turns out useless because of how much lens flare is visible. It doesn't happen on other phones or digital cameras. The footage looks really bad. Here is an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kCu9v7_AGE

I recommend contacting Apple support. I called right away after I noticed it, was on the phone for 10 minutes, was offered 4 different options;

  1. Run more diagnostics on my end to determine if it was software
  2. Go to my local Apple store or Authorized repair to get my camera module replaced for free under my one year warranty for the product (not my Apple Care+)
  3. Send it in via mail to get the phone repaired
  4. Get a replacement device mailed to me through their mail in program for $99

I have a local Best Buy in town where I live, so I went in the next day and had them run through their procedures with diagnostic tools and checks, then proceed telling me I could either drive to an Apple store who had the part (2 hour drive) or wait a week for him to order the part. Week passed, got my phone in, took about an hour, presto, new camera setup, much better results.

If you can, definitely do #2 and get the new lens it is by far the best option. I wouldn't do #4 because you could get a refurbished one (which isn't acceptable for an investment like this to get a used item) that likely never had its lens replaced.

We need posted samples by Apple (a benchmark standard) to compare against. I don’t know what their normal is. I would like to see it defined.

I don’t think that green double image is ever going to go away as long as there is a protective glass over the lens generating reflections. But those are not the only aberrations I want explained.

Simply put, I would like Apple to clearly define what is and what is not normal.

The iPhone 11 pro video quality is amazing, but the flare/ghosting of a light reflection is really annoying. It’s hard to avoid it sometimes as shown in this video at some clips:

Apple should give an explanation and redesign the lenses. I already had 2 iphone 11 pro and both hade same problem.. comparing to Osmo pocket, there is no flare.

That's a great example, I think where the problem lies if there's a big contrast between the light and what you are filming on the iPhone. I noted in several those scenes, the camera really handled well because the light was balanced.

In this video, you have bright lights you have to deal with and you can't avoid, and the lens reflection is crazy.

thanks for sharing, I love the auditorium scenes, it really handled well for the low lite experience.

I think with the iPhones we all know that we should protect your phones, and have cases so they don't get scratched. With that said, if there's a manufacturing defect replace it. I'm very upset about the camera issues, mines worse than most people, there's nothing I can do about it. How do your images compare to this, this is from my phone

I have been encountering the same issue. Massive lens flare and reversed images of light sources at night. Was just in the apple store there and they dismissed what I was saying. Mentioning they had never heard of it. After much complaining under duress they are changing the camera but I don’t think this will resolve the issue. Have people had this fixed by a camera swap or did it require a full phone exchange?

If this was normal you’d of see bigger YouTuber’s like Marques Brownlee mention it, since he ranked the iPhones camera the best of 2019. I’ve posted previous examples and so have a few others. Since Christmas lights seem to be a big ram of this flare here are two more examples

If I really try I can get flare, but that is normal for cameras with light at weird angles. Even $4000 cameras struggle with this stuff. Everyone in this thread (like 20 people) have the issue, but that’s such a small number compared to the millions of units out there.
