Apple TV remote can't turn on device after updating to tvOS 13.

The answer is go into your activity “Watch Apple TV” Add a step. The step will be click menu. This step will wake the Apple TV. Not sure why the iOS update broke this. It works though after adding the step.

have you tried to click the menu or home button on the remote rather then the touch area ?

I’m having the same issue; my Logitech Harmony, that I use to turn on and off all my TV components, doesn't turn it on either. I have to unplug and replug my 4K Apple TV to get it to turn on. My Logitech does turn it off though.

I'm having the same issue since I updated. My Logitech Harmony remote, that controls all my TV components, doesn't turn it on either. the box only powers on if I unplug and plug it back in. The Apple remote and the Logitech does turn it off though.

In my experience, the Apple TV (tvOS 13) goes to hibernate/sleep and will not power back on without a hard reboot. This seems like an egregious oversight that should have been caught in QA.

I wonder, where is the fix.

For the last few weeks, this has been really annoying. I even spoke to an Apple Senior advisor who had no idea how to turn on the AppleTV except by the iPhone or iPad Remote app. He even promised to get back to me but didn't. I figured that a later update will fix it. Then I came here to the forum and there was the simple answer. Good grief!

Thank you for that. Adding the step works. And thank you Apple once again for not thinking through the consequences. Every upgrade complicates.

Agree! I have been wracking my brains over it. Wondering why my phone will wake it up but not the remote. Nice to know that this feature was changed during the update.
