Car controls not working with iOS 13.1.1

I have a Volvo s60 and It has a USB input for my phone and controls on the steering wheel to change the track on the car stereo. It has worked fine up until I upgraded to iOS 13. Now when I hit the track forward or reverse control on the steering wheel to change the track, the song doesn’t change. I can see the track name change on the cars screen. However, it quickly reverts back and that’s it. Also, when choosing a track from my playlist it visually changes the track and quickly reverts back to the current playing track. I have tried a different cable, rebooted my phone.

Download the latest version perhaps released today, it is IOS 13.2. I have been checking for a new version since I found this thread, I have two ipod touch in my vehicles. One is a 17' VW Touareg, the other is an 18' Mercedes AMG GTC. I was having all sorts of issues with playback controls via the car with usb. After the latest upgrade so far all the issues I was having are gone and it appears to be working as expected. I have had only a few minutes of testing, but so far so good. I hope it resolves your issues as well.

I have exactly the same issue on a Mini John Cooper works, select next or previous track on play list but then reverts to the track I was listening to and trying to change. It worked flawlessly before the update ton13.1.1. I have spoken to Apple support and they have said that it is a motor manufacturer issue and they need to update software... I cannot see BMW, Volvo, Mercedes, Audi etc updating software everything Apple decide to do so. Hopefully Apple release a bug fix soon as I believe that is where the issue is!!

I am having the same issues with the new IOS 13. I have it plugged into my 2017 Hyundai Tucson to use the steering wheel controls to go to the next track. Now it shows the next track but does not go to it while using the steering wheel control and same to go to the previous track. I really hope they fix it soon considering Georgia and Florida are hands-free driving states.

Funny how when Apple is responsible for breaking the functionality of iOS it becomes the car manufacturers problem. I run a Toyota Yaris Hybrid and the next track advancement control from the steering wheel or the head unit no longer works. The only way to do this is by a Siri command. Wish Apple would stop messing around with unnecessary upgrades for iOS - the upgrades are not worth it and generally bloat the software which makes finding control settings even harder as menus become ever larger. We don’t need stupid emojis or other such childishness - concentrate on streamlining the software and above all make it stable. Less is more!

I'm facing the same issue in my BMW GT and have lost my steering controls as well as head unit controls after the ios 13 update. It's still not working after updating to 13.1.3. Apple has really lost its plot with its new iOS releases . They are focusing on putting silly little things and are messing up with actual functional features in the OS.

Apple please stop blaming the car OEMs and fix the issue ASAP as all these OEMs can't have issues at the same time after updating to ios 13

I also am experiencing the exact same issue with my 2011 Honda Insight EX with Navigation. Attempting to navigate to another playlist through the deck's touchscreen also fails to change songs or even playlists.

I have tried multiple cables and both the steering wheel and the deck's button controls. Even my iPad Pro updated to 12.1.3 won't change tracks or playlists. It all must be done by using Siri or pulling into a safe spot and physically interacting with my phone or iPad. Which is a royal pain in the peach.

No idea what audio system I have installed in the vehicle. All I remember when configuring the 2011 Insight was the EX with Navigation model mentioned a premium sound system.

I spoke yesterday with Apple support. Very nice individual who assured me Apple is aware of this issue and it is being elevated to the software engineering department to work on a fix. It took her a while to figure out that this is an iOS issue, NOT a car manufacturers issue though. Her first response was that I needed to go to the Mercedes dealership and ask for a firmware update. I firmly (no pun intended) explained that through my own research I discovered this is happening across multiple interfaces with multiple car manufacturers (and I suspect on other devices as well) and she finally admitted to me it is an iOS issue. Of course she couldn’t tell me how high a priority it is for Apple to fix and it seems it isn’t happening with CarPlay so I suspect Apple may not be too anxious to fix this as they would like to have more people forced to use CarPlay. We shall see.

At last!!... Apple finally admitting they caused a problem. Well done for your perseverance. Let’s see how long it takes for them to come up with a fix. I don’t think it’s necessarily Apple trying to force people to use CarPlay though as many manufacturers, despite signing up to CarPlay, have been very sluggish in its adoption (particularly Toyota).

Thank you Apple, I called when 13.1 was launched and I lost functionality when using iPhone via USB and as with everyone else they told me it was a motor manufacturer issue... on Thursday morning I was driving through London in my Mini JCW after downloading 13.2 and I was able to run through my playlists once again which was such a relief and made driving fun once again because I could change tracks to suit the scenery and driving style with little effort once again. Driving down the Mall towards Buckingham Palace listening to Beatles- Drive My Car. never felt so good. Thank you Apple once again
