Camera flash not working properly

I have an iphone 11 Pro max.

On Saturday evening when tried to I turn on Flash and pressed the Flashicon in the top left, whilst on photo mode, it lost the cross through it and remained white and the flash did not flash, When I expanded the menu and used the Flash option which appears at the bottom of the screen, it did work.

Sunday evening, I tried again and the top left flash icon went yellow and the flash worked.

This morning, it is back to functioning as it did Saturday, ie the cross through the flash disappears, it remains white and the flash does not function, Has anyone else had this occur,

I am sure it is a bug and will be resolved in due course of time.

Hey Philg, I figured it out! It was about to drive me crazy. So it seems that Apple has basically added a secret menu to the camera. When you’re on your camera screen, right above the shutter button you see Slo-mo ~ Video ~ Photo ~ Portrait ~ Etc.....If you ever so slightly swipe up on those options a whole new menu pops up...and you’ll see flash as the first option, from there you can turn off ‘Auto Flash’.....Took me a while of toying with it but I’m glad I figured it out. Hope that helps.

Hi there philg1824,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! It's my understanding that you have a concern about using flash to take pictures on your iPhone 11 Pro Max.

I can confirm, what you are describing is expected behavior for iPhone 11, and iPhone 11 Pro. To adjust the options, such as flash, Live Photos, timer, and more, you would tap on the arrow at the top of your preview screen to reveal the menu of options.

Learn more about the camera features here: iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro camera features - Apple Support.

Take care.

same thing for me. also i can’t use my flash whatsoever with a camera. the picture lags really bad on snapchat and then on the normal iphone camera it shows the “picture taken” animation but it doesn’t record the picture. same issue with videos. i’ve tried restarting my phone and such. i think it’s just a software glitch.

philg1824,

Thanks for the update.

It may have something to do with your Camera settings. Let's navigate to Settings > Camera > Preserve Settings: Use the camera settings on iPhone - Apple Support. Do you have Camera Mode or Creative Controls turned on? If so, this would cause your Camera app to open to the same setting you used previously. Meaning, if you enabled flash on the last use, the next time you open Camera, flash will show it is on again.

If you feel this is not what is causing the behavior, try restarting your device Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support, and making sure your iOS is up to date on the latest version of iOS 13: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.

Feel free to reach out for additional support using this link: Contact - Official Apple Support, as there may be more options available to help confirm this behavior on your device.

Take care.
