Apple Watch 5 ‘always-on’ NOT working

After pairing my rand new Apple Watch 5 with my iPhone 11 Pro I was in heaven...... for a while. Right out of the box always-on was working and everything was fine. Then after going through the settings and fine tuning a few things suddenly I find that always-on is “always off”. I’ve checked Settings>Display & Brightness>Always On on both the watch and the phone. I’ve gone through every other setting and I can’t see what I’ve done. I rebooted the watch with no joy. I’m using OS version 6.0 (17R575) on my model A2093.

I’m at my wits end. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Scott!

I understand you've noticed that your Apple Watch Series 5 will not keep the always on display. You've done a nice job troubleshooting the issue so far. Continue by following these steps:

First, restart your iPhone and Apple Watch with the following sequence:

1 - Power off Apple Watch

2 - Power off iPhone

3 - Power on iPhone

4 - Power on Apple Watch

Be sure you've waited for each step to complete before proceeding to the next one. If you haven’t restarted the devices before, here’s how:

How to restart your Apple Watch

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Once you’ve restarted both, see if there is any change.

If there is no change, go to Settings on your Apple Watch > Display & Brightness > Always On. If it's currently on, please toggle it off, then toggle it back on.

If there is still no change, you'll want to reach out to Apple Support for further assistance.
