Texting problem with update 13.1.2?

I cannot text after I updated my iPhone IOS to 13.1.2. Am I the only one who has this issue?

I called for tech support and they said they would call in 5 minutes. 30 minutes later I tried again. That time they said 2 minutes. More than 2 hours later, no call but a string of emails saying they tried to call. I gave them the correct phone number twice. I double checked to see if I received a call from them, and the last call I received was Friday (10-4-19). I had my wife call to make sure the phone is at least receiving calls, and it receiving fine. I don't know what is up with Apple, but I'm definitely very disappointed.

I am having this problem today...except it's the other way around-- no one has been able to text me back .I've turned my phone off and on a multitude of times, but still no solution. I've tried shutting off iMessages, but it is not stuck waiting for activation. After realizing my husband didn't call on his lunch break - I got really worried! Of course, only to find out that he hasn't been able to send texts to me and shows him a red exclamation point when he tries. Then, this made me realize that I haven't received any response from anybody for the past 5 1/2 hours... Idk what to do

13.1.2 was the update to fix bugs with update from 13.1, yes? Which was out to fix 13.0, I believe. To improve upon 12.xxxxx? I feel like I’m caught in the Apple matrix version of the dog ate the cat who ate the rat who ate the cheese made from the milk from the cow who chased the dog.... get where I’m going with this? After yet another glorious weekend spent trying to fix, troubleshoot, and chase down Apple personnel that weren’t automated, reading from a ‘keep the customer calm script’, or blaming everything on anything other than the obvious. Granted, I’m no forensic detective, but if it works Monday yet stops on Tuesday, with the only variable being an ‘update’ or change to ones iOS, blaming things like a cord, carelessness on the part of the user, or even another manufacturers previously well performing hardware is a bit cheeky at this point. Most of us just want to be assured the enormous amount of money spent, time lost not working, data lost on data storing programs and now time spent begging bitching whining and complaining wont end with another poorly planned and even worse executed ‘update-upgrade’, where we lose more than we get.... or better yet, an offer to just fork out more money for a new improved improved system!! Lol Like we should have assumed becoming full time IT techs was on the box when purchasing the phones, compares, Ipads, and other products we find ourselves having to now ‘tinker’ with. How about not improving? Just fixing? Dependability would be a breath of fresh air from an Apple I used to know. One I could justify all the expense for. I cant justify paying and paying for 6 products, none of which work and all of which I entirely depend on for work. After a week on phone calls with Apple people, I am no closer to anything but more lost time. Stop releasing programs clearly not ready for release. What a mess!!

Update: So, talking with apple chat support was useless.. I can almost fix anything and she couldn't understand what the problem was. I realized I can make calls using my phone number and receive calls - but I CANNOT text using my phone number. My recipients only get texts from me using my email. When they try and text my phone number, they can't. This cannot be a carrier problem. Also, right before my eyes - all my blue delivered messages turned green!! Tell me this isn't a glitch issue with the software update? Within 5 minutes, they all turned back to blue... What x2?

Just curious - when the messages turned back to blue, could you send them? We spent hours with Apple "support" yesterday. No resolution, and each person acted like it was the first time they heard about the problem. They also said it was a carrier problem. So I spent time with my carrier and we tested texting with sending via a phone number not a name. It worked fine, so there was nothing wrong with the carrier's network, just the IOS. Apple repeatedly said they would have a 2nd level support tech call - no call ever came, but we did get several emails saying they were trying to reach us. However, by going back into chat and having them check the number, they were using some other number not even close to what had been provided. Had them try again - still no call. Not happy with Apple "support".

100% Solution although you may not be happy. I have the XR and after the update I couldn’t send or receive text, receive calls etc. I went to Verizon and nothing. Walked over to Apple and 3hrs later the problem was solved. The only solution is for Apple to plug in and completely wipe your phone AND you CAN NOT RESTORE FROM THE iCLOUD due to the fact there is a risk your old file (13.1.2) may be corrupt. You will get some stuff back but not all of it but at least my phone is 100% functional again.

So in short you must have a Genius Bar tech fix your phone.

I thought I was having this issue but discovered it was a UI/UX change.

The first time you try to message someone or call them from contacts, it pops up a menu on which the top option seems to be message (or call), this isn't actually an option it is a heading.

What it is saying is do you want to call/message their number which is shown as the next option or FaceTime them, so if you select the phone number it then calls them and remembers the setting next time you ring or message the same contact.
