Used to be you could swipe left and the top of the widgets was a search field that could find apps on your iPad. The new procedures published September 19 suggest swiping down and you get a search. All I get is the widgets with no search.
This is the article I read before I posted. When I swipe down on either my iPad or iPhone I just get the widgets - news, stocks,weather,etc. No search. I also looked for a search widget but did not find one. It was so easy before to just swipe right :-(
any my other suggestion would be great.

Swipe down from the middle of the screen. See my iPad screenshot. Look where the green arrow is. It works the same way on the phone.
Thank you for the long-press tip. Hopefully apple will update their tips appropriately.
