Apple TV screensaver tvOS13

Recently downloaded latest tvos13

; it’s not populating personal screen savers using photo library.

If I try using Apple Photos or an created album it just goes black and eventually switches to Aerial on its own.

tried restarting to no avail. Anyone else having this issue?

You first have to create this type of screen saver, by making a photo selection. Photo Library Screen saver requires photos in your iCloud Photos library.

Go into you Photos app on Apple TV, select an iCloud Photos album, then click Set as Screen saver.

Then the screen saver will know what to show, when called upon.

Note that for very large albums, the screen saver selection will be a subset.

Note that the screen saver consists of cached copies (thus no live updates of additions/edits).

Just an update after upgrading ATV to 13.3. Homesharing is still working for me. Only when I restart the ATV or turns power off/on it goes back to ARIAL. I know that it doesn't help all of you that still have problems, though. It must be a combination of OSX and iTunes together with TVOS13. My MAC is on 10.12.6 and iTunes is 12.6.5.3 and Screensaver settings is "floating"

While I appreciate the solution you present, I think you may be missing the point some of us are making: restarting the Apple TV, and the ATV subsequently reverting to the default Apple screensaver, IS THE PROBLEM. Telling us to just never let the ATV turn off is a kludge. This used to work perfectly before tvOS13. Storage for Home Sharing photos appears to be longer persistent, requiring a constant pinned connection to whatever device is supplying the photos.

UPDATE to 13.4 was on my Apple TV undated yesterday

NO DIFFERENCE --- Screensaver selected Home Sharing with all of the correct settings double checked.

  1. Would not give a Preview
  2. Black Screen

SLIDESHOW options does play from all of my Home Sharing Photos so its nothing at my iMac end that is the problem.

I realize in the current CV World that this problem is not important but if someone could place it on the Agenda for down the track please.

Cheers and Stay Safe Out There in Apple Land

I think we have 2 problems here. Maybe they are connected, maybe not. One problem is the "back to aerial" situation, the other one is, I completely lost the ability for the screensaver to display home sharing photos. In my case, not even the screensaver preview works - I just get a blank screen. I've even waited up to 1 hour to let this thing to load the photos (I have about 30,000 photos) but nope, nada. And as others pointed out, I have no issues running a slideshow with those same home sharing photos.

Funny how TVOS behaves differently for different users. Up until TVOS13.4 I haven't had any problems with screensaver using my own photos through Homesharing as long as I didn't reboot. Rebooting would revert back to arial.

I have now upgraded to TVOS 13.4 and now I cannot use my own photos through Homesharing anymore. I can select an album to be used as screensaver, but I just get a black screen when it enters screensaver mode.

The "good news" is that it doesn't revert back to Arial after a reboot, but stays on the selected Homesharing Album. But since that just displays a black screen, I would rather have stayed on TVOS 13.3.1😇

This is happening on MacOS 10.12.6 and iTunes 12.6.5.3

This bug just affected both of my ATVs. But Im not having the problem with the "aerial" screensaver. Im not able to use the option of photos as a screensaver. The screen goes black when I choose this option. I am able to set a slide show from these pictures and access other areas such as music and videos meaning that home sharing is working. Did not have automatic updates on so don't know why it started happening at all.

Even if Apple try us to like the screensaver - we don't. They are slow and make my Family fell sleepy.

Apple force us to watch us things we don't want to see. In Germany it's called deliberate coercion. And is hard to believe to be a bug, right? As a huge tech giant such a behavior would never pass quality checks, for sure.

For me it seems like a wanton action crippling Apple TV Photo screensavers to bring people to the menus and confront them with payable contents.

What does it mean? Apple devices transform from devices people love to devices people loosing money, time and identity because the focus turns them into a Hollywood customer more and more.

APPLE is now questionable because it seems to be scourge of his children, iTunes Store, Book Stores and of course AppStore. They have the focus to make consumers to spend there money for digital contents and not help them to remember there life, there family and friends on self taken photos. That is again lost of mankind identity.

For me current screensaver behavior in Apple TV tvOS13.2 is crossing a red line makes me angry writing this. I'm pretty sure others agree to don't miss-use system behaviors into an instrument showing people they never wanted to see!

Sincerely,

Thanks for your reply, am switching off all tech stuff every night and am not feeling like increasing my electricity bill because of Apple, not even by a couple of cents. ;) Just tried the work around via Icloud and realised that fotos on mac and in icloud have different folder structures - makes a lot of sense - and if that wasn't enough, one can only upload JPEGs into Icloud. Feels like back to 20th century. Think I'll wait if they fix their bug, and if not, so be it. Bad look for a leading tech company tho methinks.

These days I had read a book about an ingenious CEO of a big technology company. He asked his employees what the main tasks of the cloud product they offered were. His employees gave him a lot of answers. He replied in an audible and energetic manner: "And why doesn't the product fulfill these tasks?.."

Any one know this book, too?
