What is causing the random glitches in my Optimized/Original Timeline footage?

I don't think this issue ever occurs on my proxies and it is not in the original media files and does not occur when the clip is played from the browser. However, when played in the timeline, I get about 3-4 of these per project. It's a frame or two (and sometimes even appears in the thumbnails in the timeline) where a clip from elsewhere in the project is flashed over the correct clip. The glitch appears on the exported master file as well.

Sometimes it helps to delete all the render files, but then usually the problem just occurs elsewhere. In fact! After I took the screenshot and while I wrote this post, this project was rendering, as you can see. When I returned to the FCPX window, the problem was gone! I guess that glitch is a leftover from when I last had the project open, which was before I last cleared the render files.

Tom Wolsky's suggestion to optimize the media of the project has apparently solved the problem for me and at least two other people.

I selected the project in the browser and then File > Transcode Media > Create Optimized. This way you don't have to optimize everything in the event.

Hi, everyone. I've spent a total of about 5 hours on the phone with Apple Support in the last 36 hours. I've got another scheduled call tomorrow.

In the meantime, any chance that everyone who has encountered this issue also is burning in their captions? I think the issue started when I started adding captions to my projects and burning them in. Maybe. Idk.

Thank you for your help however I’m confused because I actually want to edit the video so just importing clips is not that useful.

Importing the clips in the current version of Final Cut Pro does not damage them for me. I can for example import the clips in Final Cut Pro and then export the entire timeline to DeVinci resolve, export in ProRes format and compress with Compressor and there’s no issues. This is in fact my current work around workflow. I can even do some simple editing and clip arrangements and selection in final cut before exporting. The export will even preserve some things like basic transitions and clip duration and selection.

The bottom line is I want to use Final Cut Pro because I like the tool better and it’s not working on the Vega Pro 48 video cards and come others.

A few things I would suggest for you. Don't use iCloud Photo, because not allow keeping the videos on the camera for most clips. Don't use AirDrop. Connect your phone to the camera and use the import window. Optimize your media. I know it creates large files and requires fast drives, but it encode is much better than handled in HEVC or H.264 with unstable frame rates produced on the phones.
