Verification Failed: There was a problem connecting to the Apple server.

I cannot restore my iPhone Xs to factory settings. Settings....General....scroll down.....Reset......Erase All Content and Settings...........Data being downloaded, wait or Erase Now.......Now. Are you sure? Yes........Are you sure? Yes.............Then I get the message shown in title. I tried plugging it into my computer, Resetting phone, Checking date and time are accurate etc. Every time I get this message. What is the problem? My new phone is set up and I'm using it already. 11 Pro. Thanks for any ideas!

Hello diez4,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities. I understand you're having trouble erasing your iPhone due to a "Verification Failed" error. I know it's important to be able to erase a device you no longer plan to use; I'd like to help. First, I'd recommend removing the device from iCloud by using these steps:

    1. "Sign in to iCloud.com with their Apple ID.
    2. Go to Find My iPhone.
    3. Click All Devices at the top of the screen.
    4. Select the device that you want to remove from iCloud.
    5. If necessary, click Erase [device].
    6. Click Remove from Account."

Turn off Activation Lock

If you're unable to remotely erase your device before you remove it from iCloud, you can also use these steps to put the iPhone in recovery mode and restore it to factory settings. In step four be sure to choose "Restore" to remove all information from the device: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Let me know if you have any questions or run into trouble with this process.

Best regards.
