use second Mac as a display

I have 2 27" iMacs.

As soon as I connect my Macs with the thunderbolt cable, the second Mac becomes a display. I don't touch the keyboard. cmd + F2 doesn't change anything. I have to unplug the cable to restore each Mac to it's own display. How do I fix that?

two imacs and dual display I have 2 iMac m1 24inch 2021 and a got a Thunderbolt 3 cable. I was trying to use the second iMac as my second display, but when I put option F2 nothing happens. Any suggestions to make it work? I have already checked the resolution and the software version. I checked the cables and they are on the thunderbolt ports on the back. Any suggestions?

Help with 27" iMac as 2nd display I have two 27" iMacs connected together with a mini-DP cable. I want to use one as a second display. I connected them together and pressed cmd-F2 on the 2nd display, but nothing happened. I tried cmd-F2 on the primary, also nothing happened. I have the following setup: iMac 27" (Late 2013) High Sierra - I want this to be primary iMac 27" (Late 2012) Catalina

Reset the NVRAM on each computer then re-test Target Display Mode.
