So, I have just spent nearly 3.5 hours on and off the phone with Apple support in Australia. I have an Xr - but my problems as per prior posts - are very similar to all the other models. It appears the "Personal Hotspot" slider no longer exists with IOS 13.1.2 - instead you have "Allow Others to Join" (similar to comments above). Before I took the following steps I am not sure that the "Allow Others to Join" was working properly and family sharing was also showing. Family Sharing is no longer showing after taking the following steps and my hotspot now works. Although I have only just done this - not sure if it will last for hours, but I did let my phone go into sleep mode (I didn't turn it fully off) and the hotspot stayed connected.

These are the steps I took (it might be best to do this with an Apple Support person in case I have missed something):

  1. Backed-up my iPhone
  2. Restored my iPhone (back to factory settings - hence the need to back-up first!)
  3. When it restored - I set it up as a New Phone - I didn't log into iTunes and use the back-up straight away.
  4. Select "Don't transfer Apps and Data"
  5. Select "Forgot or Don't have an Apple ID"
  6. Select "Set up later in Settings"
  7. After setting up the other functions i.e. Siri etc. I checked the phone and had the "Allow Others to Join" option. After sliding it on, we tested this on my laptop and the hotspot worked.
  8. From iTunes on your computer - select Restore Back-Up (we didn't do this from the New screen - we did it from the usual iTunes screen.
  9. My hotspot is working (yay!). Will keep the chat posted if I have the intermittent problems and dropping out like some of the other feedback.

Fingers crossed this works and good luck everyone else.

Just a heads up everyone, I spoke to an Apple Senior Tech (one of many) yesterday and told them about this discussion on the apple.com site and was told "this is NOT monitored or replied by any authorized apple employees it is just a area for "us" users to chat to one another and share experiences, If you want to send in complaints go to apple.com/feedback" (this is supposed to go to people at Apple) in the meantime Yes the latest update (13.2) did NOT fix the hotspot and we just have to wait until Apple Engineers get off their butt and listen to this community, in the meantime I suggest everyone to send in their issues to apple.com/feedback

Thanks for the info, I have 13.2 installed but still nothing, I have a HP and Dell and the new Square Card reader and all can not connect to the iPhone since this new IOS 13 update, yet it connects to mac laptops and iPads fine, we just have to wait

keep in mind, the apple engineers don't really know about this and are not really concerned because they all have NEW iPhones which work fine with the new ios13 update, send in your concerns to apple.com/feedback, this discussion area is NOT monitored by apple even though its on their apple site its just used for end users to chat to one another ;-\

I downloaded the 13.3 beta and it wasn’t fixed for me. I finally called Verizon and was told that this was happening to a certain number of phones from a certain batch. Don’t really believe that, but they also told me that since they’d done an update on their end, it had been fixed. They sent me a replacement phone and it has iOS 12.2 so I won’t be doing any updates until I know the hotspot issue has been fixed. I’m curious to know if this is a Verizon issue or maybe a Modem Hardware issue. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi Charo1973, this issue is still not fixed. I have 100’s of users at work I support and they are still having to use the “refresh IP address” .bat file I delivered to their desktops for a quick fix when the hotspot acts stupid like this., even after updating to iOS 13.3..1

This has been going on now for a ridiculously long time now, since 13.1 came out last September of 2019!

I don't have a Chromebook to make a screenshot or confirm exact steps to get there, try this:

Settings -> wifi -> (select your iphone hostpot SSID) -> Network

Disable DHCP - that is Uncheck or slide off "configure IP address automatically"

Fill in:

IP 172.20.10.10 *

Prefix 255.255.255.0

Gateway 172.20.10.1

Refer to this pic as an example of the page view you are looking for, someone should screencap a new one with the IPs for iphone: https://storage.googleapis.com/support-forums-api/attachment/message-944515-6624323087604378252.png

* if multiple people using same iphone hotspot, that last number (for IP address only) should be different for each person, using numbers between 2 and 14. If each person is singly using their own phone, they can all use .10 (it is easier to remember the end is .20.10.10 when you will be verbally coaching someone calling you for support ...)

When the user goes back onto a work/school/home network, they may need to set it back to configure automatically since it's unlikely that other network uses that same 172.20.10. range. While the static IP is set, you are saying here "I ONLY want to use this IP", so the network will not reply back with a correction. WIth auto DHCP, you are only SUGGESTING you prefer to retain your last IP, so if that one does not work, the network gives you an alternate. NOT SURE about my last paragraph here - since you need to select the network SSID to get to these settings, you may be setting IP specifically only for the iphone connection :)

If you read through all the pages, there are some postings of work arounds that work, at least temporarily. Complain directly to Apple. Apparently they don’t read anything we post here (or they do and they just don’t care).

go to www.apple.com/feedback and fill out a bug report.

I have an iPhone 7 Plus. I can connect to my chromebooks, but others say they can not. I have to reset the network settings on my Roku to get it to connect.

very annoying.

This is absolutely unacceptable! The update has broken the hotspot. After going through all the troubleshooting with Apple and then with TMobile I was advised to do an erase and restore. Guess what? The backup is stupid IOS13 so the hotspot is still broken. I fired up an old iPhone with IOS12 I had lying around and the hotspot works. Apple has failed miserably. Who is responsible for testing this before release?? FAIL FAIL FAIL! IOS13 doesn’t just have bugs it is DEFECTIVE.

It is the same problem on the Roku device, it’s connecting to the HotSpot, but not getting a valid IP address configuration from the HotSpot. Unfortunately, Roku does not provide much access to configuring the Roku’s network address, there is no way to set a Roku with a static IP address or to release and renew the network address automatically or even via a button in the Roku interface...

You can try going through network setup on your Roku device: Go to Settings > Network from your Roku device (or SettingsNetwork > Repeat guided setup from an original Roku device).

After you have successfully checked your connection, tap "Try Again" in the Roku mobile app.

That may trigger the Roku to refresh its network address with the HotSpot.

if you end up seeing the subnet mask on the Roku at, or remaining at, 255.0.0.0, it’s not going to work, that value is coming from the HotSpot, is incorrect, and will not work.

I’m assuming you have the actual Roku remote control right? So you can drive through the menus that way, and since the Roku is not online, no app remotes will work. You could try resetting the network on the Roku:

  1. Press the home button.
  2. Select the Settings option.
  3. Choose the Advanced System Settings option from the list of settings.
  4. Pick the option for Network Connection Reset.
  5. Press the select button on Reset Connection to clear all of your network connection settings.
  6. Your Roku will reboot immediately.

Once the reboot has been completed, you can set up your network settings from scratch. If your old network settings had been causing a problem, the issues with your network connection should be fixed. You will need your Wi-Fi network name and password to recreate the connection.

something else I read was to bring up the iOS Control Center on the HotSpot device, such as the iPhone or iPad, then long press on the WiFi symbol, that will expand the menu, from there, you can toggle the Personal HotSpot off and then on again, which may trigger the Roku to grab a refreshed IP address configuration.

Again though, and unfortunately, Roku doesn’t give you a lot of access to manage the network address on the Roku’s menu system. If they had a simple “release/renew” button, you’d be all set.

You can force a Roku to have a static IP address configuration from a router by assigning a static IP address based off of the Roku’s MAC address, but with an iOS HotSpot, you are not able to gain that kind of control of the “router” in iOS!!!

The Roku May be stuck offline via the iOS 13 HotSpot until Apple acknowledges the problem and fixes it in a later release; I have yet to see Apple acknowledge the problem anywhere online, and when I spoke with Apple support they did not acknowledge the issue either; so I’m not sure this will even be repaired in iOS 13.1.4. It is a real problem though!

You’re welcome! Glad I could help out! I figured that after solving this at work for 100’s and 100’s of iPhone HotSpot users there, least I could do is share the info here, and since Apple doesn’t seem to be yet acknowledging this problem in iOS 13.1 and up, the info should be useful to others.

Unfortunately, the problem eventually returns, through some combination of events, like turning off the iPhone or switching networks (like you mentioned); but using the Roku network reset should get you going again. On computers, or other streaming devices other than Roku, it is pretty easy to release and renew the IP address configuration, which corrects the issue quickly.

It would be nice if Roku included a button in their network settings area to refresh an IP address configuration! I’ll suggest that to Roku on their website.

Hello all

I am having the same issue however it is only on certain devices.

I have the following devices

iPhone 11 - (Where the data is coming from)

iPad Air 4 - (Connects fine and uses data from iPhone fine)

Huawei Y7 2018 - (Connects fine and uses data from iPhone fine)

Tesco Hudl v1 - (Connects fine and does NOT use data from iPhone)

Tesco Hudl v2 - (Connects fine and does NOT use data from iPhone)

The devices that do not connect are my sons. I need to tether so he can use his tablets over my data. All devices connected fine before the update.

What is baffling me is why does my Huawei Y7 connect and use the data perfectly fine and my other older android devices do not.

I have tried all the recommended fixes. Reset network settings, restart hotspot, restart all devices. Nothing works.

**COME ON APPLE PLEASE GIVE US A FIX**
