So, I have just spent nearly 3.5 hours on and off the phone with Apple support in Australia. I have an Xr - but my problems as per prior posts - are very similar to all the other models. It appears the "Personal Hotspot" slider no longer exists with IOS 13.1.2 - instead you have "Allow Others to Join" (similar to comments above). Before I took the following steps I am not sure that the "Allow Others to Join" was working properly and family sharing was also showing. Family Sharing is no longer showing after taking the following steps and my hotspot now works. Although I have only just done this - not sure if it will last for hours, but I did let my phone go into sleep mode (I didn't turn it fully off) and the hotspot stayed connected.

These are the steps I took (it might be best to do this with an Apple Support person in case I have missed something):

  1. Backed-up my iPhone
  2. Restored my iPhone (back to factory settings - hence the need to back-up first!)
  3. When it restored - I set it up as a New Phone - I didn't log into iTunes and use the back-up straight away.
  4. Select "Don't transfer Apps and Data"
  5. Select "Forgot or Don't have an Apple ID"
  6. Select "Set up later in Settings"
  7. After setting up the other functions i.e. Siri etc. I checked the phone and had the "Allow Others to Join" option. After sliding it on, we tested this on my laptop and the hotspot worked.
  8. From iTunes on your computer - select Restore Back-Up (we didn't do this from the New screen - we did it from the usual iTunes screen.
  9. My hotspot is working (yay!). Will keep the chat posted if I have the intermittent problems and dropping out like some of the other feedback.

Fingers crossed this works and good luck everyone else.

This is bad, very bad, I rely on my hotspot for my business, I connect my laptop to the hotspot and tools to my laptop, the tools do not work for piracy reasons if they don’t have a connection they won’t work and if it fails mid process it can be catastrophic.

Everything worked perfectly up until this update but now it drops connection for no reason, the connection stays connected longer as long as I don’t pick my phone up and try and use it, then it drops straight away.

Frustratingly there is no roll back option and I’m left with customers I can’t service right now, do I go buy an Android or are Apple going to resolve this?

This is happening to me. NO PROBLEMS before updating to IOS 13.1.2. I have reset my network settings, checked for carrier update, powered devices off and on and checked for most recent updates. I have changed the name on my iphone.

I have an IPhone 7 Plus. I can see my phone in the devices WiFi list. I can select it. I can enter my password. When I press connect, the “connected” bar flashes at the top of my phone and goes off. The bar will toggle off and on for a split second each time before finally timing out. Please, when will this be fixed???? Seems to be a known problem. Why can’t someone at Apple at least say that they recognize the problem and will have a fix soon?

I was having an exclamation point showing up next to my connection. I know that is a problem for many others. Making my hotspot discoverable fixed that and I was connected fine. Thank you coach1234! BUT! That only lasted about an hour! My hotspot is still discoverable and it shows that I'm connected, but the exclamation point is back, so I have no internet. Any ideas anyone?

At this time Do not need to do anything with iPHONE providing HOTSPOT.

Just You need to go to setting of device you want to join to HOTSPOT. Well, how to change this setting depends on OS platform.

Same situation with my iPhone SE. It’s hotspot only can be joined when “allow others to join” activated. On IOS13 Apple device supposed to join hotspot with no password when both devices signed with same Apple ID. I spent 1,5 hours on Apple web support and those people are useless. I never had such problems on IOS12.

Still no solutions. I suspect that Apple does this deliberately for people to upgrade their rubbish phones.

Also got a problem with playing Bluetooth music n my car after upddate to IOS13. My next phone will be Android, I’m fed up with Apple.

The Hotspot is dead on my new iPhone 11 as well. Did the update to the latest IO Sand still have troubles. The SSID does not appear on my PC and when it does sometimes I connect and it drops after a few seconds. Sometimes it works. Have tried rebooting the phone and changing the phone name and so on and still, flaky as all get out.

Does Apple test this stuff or what?? Really. Their Software quality has really gone downhill. $1100 for the POS and one of the most basic communications based features is broken. I bet I have some cool Emoji's though.

You’re welcome RefragTheRAM! All we can do now is wait on Apple to acknowledge the problem and fix it. I had similar experience calling into Apple support; no help there... maybe they are hoping they can just wait out Win7 EOL in January... but this issue does hit other devices, like Roku devices, iPads, Fire Sticks, etc. Win10 does seem immune to it though, so far.

No, Apple Doesn't care about older model phones, they want your money and want you to upgrade,

NUMEROUS Calls to Apple regarding this same issue from me as well and NO Call backs, seem Apple Engineers Dropped the ball on this one! I was told by a senior Apple Advisor, engineer department is aware and working on it and not to offer swap out phones or offer any compensation for this mess, Seems to me that Apple Engineer Department has more control over Apple then Apple Does! For them to tell us to wait until they fix something that should NOT have been released. Apple Dropped the ball on this one and EVERYONE that has this issue SHOULD Complain like **** to the Customer Service Department and DON'T BACK DOWN! they just want to shut you up and keep saying wait till next week , This is 6 weeks now and still no fix, Apples Engineer Department Answer to everyone is "if you don't like it, go get another phone"!!! Wish this would go to Someone at Apple that has more say then the Engineer Department does!

(my phone is 2 months old what a joke).
