Bluetooth headsets disconnecting

iphone 6s, ios 13.1,

My Plantronics 5200 legend headset will randomly disconnect for a call, returning the sound to phone. I thought that this was an issue with the 5200.

Now I am finding the same thing happening with a different headset.

Apparently it is a problem with the iphone. I noticed that the most recent iphone update mentioned something about fixing bluetooth disconnect issues.

I guess it really isn't fixed.

astro46,

Thanks for your reply. Let's continue.

We were checking to see if 'Not Connected' appeared to help isolate between an audio issue or connection issue. We understand that it would be a priority to continue to finish your conversation first, however.

I'd like to have you try these steps next:

-Toggle Bluetooth off and back on in Settings > Bluetooth (not Control Center).

-Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.

-Restart your Bluetooth accessory. Make sure it is fully charged.

-Remove any case from your iPhone.

-Disable Wi-Fi in Settings > Wi-Fi (not Control Center).

-Test for the same behavior.

If the behavior continues, please try unpairing the Bluetooth accessory from your iPhone: Settings > Bluetooth > tap the 'i' next to the Bluetooth accessory > tap 'Forget This Device'. Then, if applicable, reset the Bluetooth accessory (you may need to reach out to the manufacturer if you're unsure how to do this), then pair and connect and test again.

If this does not resolve the issue, please reach out for extended support using this link next: Contact - Official Apple Support.

Thank you!

Hi astro46,

Welcome back to the Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding that you are experiencing issues with Bluetooth headphones disconnecting from your iPhone. I am happy to help.

To confirm, are you now using the most recent iOS 13.1.2 version with your iPhone 6s? You can confirm under Settings > General > Software Update.

Try the related steps found in this support article, to see if there is positive improvement on this behavior: If you can't connect a Bluetooth accessory to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. Also, make sure there are no wireless interferences causing the Bluetooth issue: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference - Apple Support.

If the same issue remains, please tell me, when this issue does occur, is the Bluetooth accessory showing as 'Not Connected' in Settings > Bluetooth?

Reach back out with your response, for continued support.

Thank you!

brenden, yes, using 13.1.2.

Issue is not about connecting. The second article mostly related to computer/router issues.

my bt headset is within a couple of feet of the iphone. neither me or the phone is encased in a metal box.

When the phone disconnects i am in the middle of a conversation. My immediate concern is being able to communicate, so I haven't stopped to check if the settings show 'not connected'. Will you explain why I might see that the bt headset might be showing connected, but not be able to communicate through it?

I have tried turning the headset off and back on, connection comes back for a while then may disconnect again later. I can add that I also hear occasional "beep, beep, beep", though this doesn't seem to impact communication. The disconnection is random, and unpredictable. It has happened with more than one headset.

The current ios update, 13.1.2, changelog indicates 'fixing' bt disconnect issues,

I have already tried all of the steps that you listed, execept for removing the case. The iphone is poorly designed, and far too slippery to use with out a rubber non slip case. Since the problem is erratic I would be more in danger of phone slipping and breaking before I could determine if the problem is perhaps solved.

I have re-paired the headsets this morning before receiving you email. Time will tell if this makes any difference.

However, since apple has already admitted a problem with bt disconnection, it seems that this is the place to start for a solution.
