Someone claiming to be from apple called and said suspicious activity is going on in my ICloud from Russia and somewhere else... would apple contact me by my landline? how do I verify if it is legit? What could be the ramifications if my ICloud is breached?

Apple doesn’t make such calls. The callers are criminals trying to steal your personal and financial information. The best course of action is to hang up on them, then tell all your friends and family to do likewise if/when they get the same type of call.

It was a scam. Apple doesn't make unsolicited calls (to landlines or otherwise).
