Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Missing Magnifying Glass in iPhone text editing.

Does anyone else HATE no longer having the circle magnifying glass when trying to put the curser somewhere in a text box? Does any one know if you can get it back in settings? I can no longer figure out how to get the curser into the middle of a word for editing, and if I manage to it’s by sheer dumb luck. I really miss the magnifying glass feature in text on the iPhone and can not figure out how to get it back, if there is any way to do so!

YESSS!! So Annoying !!!!

No magnifying bubble !!!

🥴 When I try to use the new bigger line, my finger is covering the text so I cannot get a good look at where I need to edit. The bubble made the letters big enough to see. Plus, the line doesn’t stay put where you want it... it bounces to the front or back of the word. 😡

Your post just illustrates you haven't taken the time to learn how to use the new method. And no, Apple doesn't read these threads for content other than violation of the terms of use. And further, it's highly unlikely the magnifying glass will return, especially since they've created a new process which works really well.

But you can tell Apple you don't like the new method via this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Yes, I like it. No, you don't have to. But telling other users you don't won't get you anything. Apple isn't here and isn't reading these posts for anything other than violating terms of use.

If you don't like it, which is fine, tell Apple as only they can bring back the magnifying glass (highly likely as that may be).

No, not hard to understand. Though when someone first posts to the OP's first post, they didn't read the thread to see there is a new way.

But commiserating with other users that you don't like the new way is pointless here. Apple isn't on this forum. Just users here.

Tell Apple if you don't like it (though don't expect any change as the Magnifying Glass is likely gone for good) by providing feedback through this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Oh goody. Another poster who didn't bother to read past the original post.

Apple isn't here. This is user to user only forum.

Apple won't likely bring the magnifying glass back and in my opinion, they shouldn't. If you'd bother to read this thread, you'd see there are new ways to move the cursor to edit text and they work MUCH better than the old way.

But if you really want to tell Apple what you want, use this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

They won't respond to you and you can pretty much be guaranteed the magnifying glass is gone for good. I used this link to thank them for bringing better editing tools to iOS.

I completely disagree that anything was screwed up with this change. The magnifying glass had long been maligned and it was time for Apple to introduce editing tools that are better and they did. It really doesn't matter to us whether you like it or not. We are all users here. You can certainly provide feedback to Apple via this link, but the chances of Apple bringing back the goofy magnifying glass is not likely at all. Where did I say was offended in the least. I get you don't like it. And that's OK. Just telling a bunch of users on a user to user only forum, none of whom work for Apple won't get the magnifying glass back. Use the feedback link to let Apple know your thoughts. If you don't want to search for it, here it is --> https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Personally I much prefer the new ways you can move the cursor. It took some adjustment and getting used to. And I used the feedback link to let Apple know I rather like the new ways.

Who do you think you're writing? We are ALL users on this user to user forum. If you're not happy with this change, don't tell us, tell Apple. You can provide feedback via this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

I have news for you though. If you don't like change, you'd likely be better off with an old flip phone, you know the kind before smart phones. Otherwise, change is inevitable and in many cases welcome (as was this change to me, btw). When you purchase Apple, you can determine what change is acceptable. Or you can learn how the new gestures work. Your choice.

We are all users on this forum, so telling Apple to do anything here will get you nothing.

You can tell Apple yourself by providing feedback via this link (though it's highly unlikely they'll bring it back) --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

You might also want to actually read this thread you posted to, to learn how to use the new gestures, which actually work quite well.

My guess is Apple has 20-something programmers with perfect vision, like I used to have when I was 20, and they didn't see the need for it.

Interestingly, most of us who are talking in this thread about how much we like the new system are well beyond 20 and into the reading glasses stage of life. As is Mr. Cook.

@IdrisSeabright, what's your problem? I choose to read posts, nobody forces me. You have the same choice in life. Having said that, I do find it rather amusing...

  1. If he chose to write that post, by definition he didn't waste his own time.
  2. I chose to read it, and while it may not have given me a solution to the topic at hand, it did at least contribute to the thread and provide a degree of insight into the incompetence of Apple Support.
  3. You are happy to call somebody out for wasting our time (in your opinion) yet here you are, contributing nothing constructive to the thread and doing the very same thing that you apparently have a hatred of. Hypocritical, no?

Before you harp on about how I'm doing the same blah blah blah, just bear in mind I'm not the one calling anybody out here. For somebody who is a Level 10 here, I'd expect better.

@rbrylawski, if you'd read back even just a little bit, you'd see plenty of posts saying exactly the same, trying to be helpful yet contributing nothing useful beyond flexing personal opinion. If people can't come onto a forum and express theirs one way or another without getting told this that or the other, or accused of "fact over opinion", I guess that's the crux to why I hardly bother with forums at all these days.

  1. Anything stated is obviously an opinion unless clarified otherwise
  2. If people don't like what's being discussed, just move on

Jan 1, 2020 2:49 PM in response to IdrisSeabright

Actually.... Apple’s community guidelines do ask users to answer in a specific way. Berating people for not reading a 20 page thread is not useful. It also doesn’t help Apple’s image since these forums are hosted by Apple and, to most people searching for answers, these forums have the appearance of being part of Apple. They also ask that we stay on topic so I’m dropping off this thread.

For the love of God. Why can't I unfollow this thread? I have clicked follow so the check mark goes away at least five times in the past couple of weeks but I am still getting an email every time someone adds something new.. As entertaining as it has been, I think I'm done watching the sparring matches.
  1. click on Following
  2. refresh the page in your browser

eventually it will stay “follow”
