Missing Magnifying Glass in iPhone text editing.

Does anyone else HATE no longer having the circle magnifying glass when trying to put the curser somewhere in a text box? Does any one know if you can get it back in settings? I can no longer figure out how to get the curser into the middle of a word for editing, and if I manage to it’s by sheer dumb luck. I really miss the magnifying glass feature in text on the iPhone and can not figure out how to get it back, if there is any way to do so!

YESSS!! So Annoying !!!!

No magnifying bubble !!!

🥴 When I try to use the new bigger line, my finger is covering the text so I cannot get a good look at where I need to edit. The bubble made the letters big enough to see. Plus, the line doesn’t stay put where you want it... it bounces to the front or back of the word. 😡

Then you're doing it WRONG. There is no reason to have text under your thumb if you took the time to learn how to do this.

Since you are clearly too busy to take your time to learn, I'll take my personal time to help you.

  1. Hold your finger on the Space Bar until the keyboard disappears
  2. Keep your finger in the same place (don't remove it)
  3. Slide your finger around and you'll see the cursor move.

There. Your finger will not be on top of any letters or words. And if you think this is difficult, no one can help you.

You can Google how to get the magnifying glass back till cows fly. Apple removed it (no one on this forum works for Apple as we're all users here) and they are highly unlikely to ever bring it back. So you need to learn the new gestures as Apple has implemented them.

Here’s something else that’s been gone since iOS 8.4: Remember how you could turn your iPhone 90 degrees and the font size of an email enlarged automatically to fill the (now horizontal) screen? It was a beautiful little feature. No matter how the small the font was, you could just turn your iPhone on its size, and presto! You got a large font without text overflow on your screen. Any other effort to zoom leads to text overflow or other visual anomaly. I would sure like to visit with the genius at Apple who “fixed” both of these features when neither was “broke”!

I DO hate as well! It's was EXTREMELY helpful. Removing this feature means a downgrade, not an upgrade... Now you have to delete the entire word and retype it in case only one single letter is misspelled, which is TRULY a nuisance. There are other bugs as well. The app "Find My iPhone" is missing the word "iPhone". It's like "Find My" (that's crass!). The speaker volume level you set by using the physical buttons (iPhone 6s Plus) doesn't match with the virtual volume level that appears on the Control Centre.

Good news! You can still place the cursor in the middle of the word. Instead of magnifying glass, you magnifying the cursor line.

On the iPhone, lightly select and hold your finger on the cursor line. The line will enlarge and you can drag to drop it anywhere in the text that you desire. Also, there’s other editing features such as double tapping to select a word, triple tapping for a sentence, and tapping four times to select a paragraph.

Agreed. I won't say it's the most stupid thing they've done in a long time, but at least make it an option in settings. How the **** are you supposed to press and hold to get a thin vertical line appear under your finger, then move it to where you want? You can't see the **** thing, and as you say it's more luck than judgement if you land correctly.

Apple, if you read this, please, PLEASE bring back the ability press and hold to get the magnifying glass up as before. Make it an option for the handful of users who insist the new method is fine because it's Apple and what you do is perfect. Not always! :)

PS Pressing and holding the spacebar is not intuitive. Better, but still crap compared to what they had.

Absolutely HATE not having it anymore.

When inputting text it's a limited problem because you can use 3D Touch (not on 11) or sliding on the space bar.

But when selecting from readonly text, e.g. in a webpage, you select completely blind because your finger covers the text itself.

Magnifying glass was one of the best features in iOS since ever, something Android guys always envied to iOS!

I really can't understand some Apple choices 🤷‍♂️
