bluetooth not working - not detecting any device.

So, I just bought a new Macbook Pro -15", 2019 (running 10.14.6) a few months ago. I am replacing my old macbook and I wanted to move over my bluetooth mouse and apple keyboard. No matter what I do, I can not get it to detect *any* bluetooth device. It gives no other information, just the little spinny dodad in the corner keeps spinning. My old macbook has no issues seeing the devices, so I know that they are out there. Also, my previously working Beats headphones no longer connect. I have tried many, many suggestions before coming here.

Things I have tried:

  • Turned it on and off again, reboot, etc.
  • Deleted bluetooth related plist files
  • Reset PRAM and SMC
  • Booted into safe mode
  • Ran disk check
  • Removed the devices from the old Mac and shut it down.
  • Debug mode on the bluetooth icon, reset bluetooth device, remove all devices

Nothing has worked. I am at my wits end. The only thing that I can think of that might have caused the issue was that I plugged in a USB bluetooth dongle for a few minutes to check its functionality. After that, I have no recollection of any bluetooth device working.

The only bit of information I have is from bluetooth explorer - In the event log.

Hello stickben,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! I see you're having an issue with your MacBook Pro and Bluetooth and I'd like to do what I can to help out.

You've done some great and extensive troubleshooting so far!

Have you tried to test with another user on your Mac? This article has the info about making a test user, in case you need the steps: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

If the Bluetooth is not connecting in another user, then you can run a diagnostic to see if there is a hardware issue:

Hi stickben,

Thanks for providing us with an update on what's been happening, and the steps you were able to perform.

At this point, I'd suggest having a technician take a look at your MacBook Pro to see what's up with the Bluetooth.

I have the exact same issue. Mine occurred after upgrading to 10.15.1. I have tried the same, but add running hardware diagnostics during startup and no reported errors. Mine is a 2018 MBP 13". Misery loves company.
