People have posted this problem before, but the answers offered don't seem to relate to the Mohave. Any answers would be appreciated. I have done the obvious, i.e. restart and upgrade download. It's a pain!
Have you rebooted your router, disabled any VPN, and checked for malware, e.g. with https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/?

Don't have virus protection - will check for malware
Is Malware bytes to be trusted. I tried to install, but it told me to click allow in security - I couldn't find 'allow' to click, so didn't get any further.

Thanks - Malwarebytes seems to have solved the issue
