album artwork in Catalina Music

I updated to Catalina and my Album Artwork in Music is missing. The images are embedded in the file since I can preview the image in Finder (file info). Also, in Music the player shows the image that is saved with the files. I did an Album Artwork search through Music but most Album Artwork can't be found. Any ideas?

Having the same issue - and it's frustrating given the volume of music I have. But I have also noticed that each time I close/re-open "Music" (hope some overpaid Apple PhD gets credit for coming up with that name) all the settings are back to default. Do we presume that this is another glitch that will be fixed in a later update or will we forever have to live with the overwhelming genius of the Apple developers who clearly know better than we do?

I also updated to Catalina, with a clean install and rebuilt my music library, all the artwork, (independently sourced- not from Apple), initially was there and has been until today, now no artwork displays in album view. If I use 'Get Info' it is all there, the fault just seems to be in album view. The whole Music app seems to be a disaster compared to iTunes. iTunes did what we all expected from Apple- it just worked! Apple seem to be determined to withdraw useful features such as column browser to make everything look like a mobile app with limited usability. I have a large music collection and it's becoming more difficult to manage using Music- please give us back useable useful apps!

There are a few other threads discussing this same issue, it would be great if Apple could consolidate them to make the cumulative discussion more effective.

I have found that some of my music files no longer have the artwork attached, in other words finding the file in Finder in Mojave shows the artwork, and in Catalina it does not. So I suspect there is a larger bug than just re-indexing the cover art and asking people to use the Get Album Artwork functionality.

Is there any way to be notified when apple fixes this? Many people are just reverting back to Mojave, but it would be nice to know if they fix the bugs eventually so we can progress into Catalina, (not having use of reminders etc. in Mojave anymore is terrible).

I see two possible solutions to get rid of the not working Music app:

1) do not upgrade to Catalina;

2) continuing to use iTunes under Catalina. However iTunes is artificially disabled by Apple under Catalina (why?), but it can be patched by the "Retroactive" application to run smoothly on Catalina.

A Further advantage is have Radios in iTunes (practically non existing anymore in Music app) and get rid of Books apps which stores audiobook in the same user Container location as Music artworks (big problem if you have several Gb of audiobooks).

I still hope that Apple will change direction, because, at the moment, from my point of view, both Music and Books applications are not usable. Hopefully, users will give some strong feedback to Apple.

Multiple attempts to restore the album artwork, with no result, I came to the conclusion to set it up again manualy.

About 500 albums.

However a lot of artwork was/is is stored in this location:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.AMPArtworkAgent/Data/Documents/artwork/

Note that it has a cryptic token and not the album name... so good luck if you wanna do it my way

@Apple No more f*ckup's like this please...

Sad to hear it did not work out for you.

I did not mentioned one thing, i also selected on the album itself " get album artwork"

Not sure why i did work for me ?

So this was my message , and after it showed its activity

Yet this being said i believed it was resolved ...(as all showed up on my first pages when browsing in Music.

Apparently it only did 1/4 of my total data on my disks .. :-(

So we are not out of the blue just yet ...

It cannot be fixed, putting the artworks in the user home is technically horrible. They should put the artworks together with the music files, otherwise it will be always buggy and misalligned.

This is conceived to work in streaming (making faster the artworks displaying), but is killing for local sharing and also for the user storage.

They should go back to the previous implementation (artworks in the music library), but it is big change and without a strong feedback from users, I do not believe it will happen.

I have a large library on a Mac with more than I need actually and I have used DropSync 3 for several years to back it up because it is quick and simple to use.

I gave up early on and reloaded all of my artwork and files in a new Large "Music" library which is not synced and have had success so far. Luckily since I had a backup I did not lose anything, If you don't want to lose it , BACK IT UP.

I maintain a smaller iTunes Match library on a Windows computer which is linked to my iPad and iPhone.

I actually like the "Music" application, enjoy using it and prefer not to learn something new. I would like to see Art Display brought back for the songs view but I can live without it. The interesting thing is so far iTunes for Windows is just like it was but I am sure Apple will eventually screw it up also. If they have anyone testing these things before they release them they are either not listening to them or the testing is not being done properly.

Seems they are never happy with something that works.

I'll mention again something I've mentioned previously, as it is surely relevant. My music lives on a NAS and I have two different Macs whose iTunes libraries both use this exact same library. Every file in my library has Album Art. Both of those Macs were upgraded to Catalina (it was unfortunately necessary for my business that I do so), and both of them lost all of their Album Art in the transition from iTunes to Music.

However...

I later upgraded one of them to Catalina 10.15.2 and all of its Album Art magically re-appeared as part of the upgrade. I then upgraded the other one, but in that case the Album Art failed to re-appear, and has still failed to re-appear with the 10.15.3 upgrade. This is very clearly a persistent bug. I can't fathom how it is that Apple has failed so abjectly to both recognize and fix it. I can only assume that this whole fiasco represents some kind of intentional strategem on the part of Apple to accomplish ... well, frankly I can't imagine what. :(

If Steve Jobs were still in charge heads would have rolled by now.

It is on GitHub, you should find also via Google. I see that now there is a 1.6 version. I also suggest to maintain an external startup disk with a previous MacOS version. Preferably High Sierra because it can already manage the APFS file system. It can be always useful for operation which are not allowed in Catalina. For instance, since I want take my home directory clean, starting from another disk, I completely deleted Music as well as Books and Podcast. Normally they are protected and you cannot delete them.
