I can not update to macos catalina from Software Update. After I click Upgrade Now, it will download 8.09GB, then nothing happen. If I click Upgrade Now again, it will download again!

Download it from the App Store app instead of using software update.
So I had this same issue. What I did to make it work was I rebooted the computer in "safe mode." Then I was able to install the upgrade successfully to Catalina while in safe mode. Hope this helps.
If you're using HFS+ you'll first need to convert to APFS before upgrading.
There was errors showing network not available , I have to start the downloading 2 - 3 times from the beginning , and at last the os was installed , you have to restart the Mac by going to apple logo > and click on restart .
The safari update and os was combined .
Open App Store , and sign in with apple id and password , open Mac OS Catalina Ising spotlight , click on advanced , make sure all boxes are checked .
There was in update of safari ( first install it ) , click on upgrade , the bar will start uploading in the upcoming steps click on download and restart , follow more upcoming steps to download os .
Try downloading it from preference update software I used that this morning and it was quick and works great
I had the (null) but waited until it said 10.15 (the next day) patience I think is the A with Catalina in the morning it said 10.15 not (null) that scared me off personally
How long did it take to download and install?
About 45 minutes for me, but it will obviously be related to your Internet speed.
