An error occurred while installing the selected updates

I've tried upgrading to Catalina but each time it reaches 511MB it fails and i get this error message "An error occurred while installing the selected updates" what can i do? Wen i first got the update notification, i tried upgrading and I was told i don't have enough storage, so i cleared my storage and tried again then i started getting this error message each time it downloads and reaches 511MB. Any idea as what's causing it and how I can solve it? Thank you

I was having the same issue using Google Fiber Network, I switched over to our guest WIFI network using Cox and it worked without timing out. You might need to switch to another ISP to get it installed. Just curious what network others are using? Is it a Google thing?

I switched to a different network and I was able to pass the 511MB, it downloaded right to about 4.65GB and failed and showed network was lost. I tried re-downloading again and it started at 511MB. but then it can't get pass the 511MB because i've switched back to my old network. My question is, How can I delete the 511MB that has been downloaded so that I can start back from scratch?

Had same problem ( An error occurred while installing the selected updates) and only changing the network solved it for me.

I don't have Google Fiber Network, so I think it somehow "blacklists" certain networks as an error. Just a wild guess.

Boot your Mac in safe mode by holding shift immediately after powering up and then try downloading Catalina. This solved the problem for me.

I also experienced mine as well...

It started the download at 511MB and it crashes.

I don't know what to do now therefore, I should wait for Catalina 10.15.1.

Just keep clicking "OK" when the error occurs and then keep repeating the procedure. This worked for me after around 5 consecutive tries. Good luck!!
