Songs labelled properly in iTunes but mislabelled on iPhone

Hello! I have a 2015 Macbook Pro (10.13.6) running iTunes (12.8.2.3) as well as an iPhone XS (iOS 12.3). I've encountered a problem where some of my tracks (not from iTunes store) that are labelled perfectly properly in iTunes don't show the proper tags when I view them on my iPhone. For example, here is how Hideout by Parcels appears in my iTunes library, and here is how it appears on my iPhone. This doesn't happen with every album, only some. In the past, I've found out that the reason for this disparity is something in the metadata of the album, and have amended it properly. However, in this case, I can't see anything wrong with the metadata that would lead to this issue. The only possible culprit I can think of is in the File tab, where the id3 tag is listed as v2.3 in the OK ones, but v2.4 in the messed up ones. I don't know what this tag means, but idk if it has anything to do with the issue. I do not have Apple Music, if that helps at all.

Hey there NateS97,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand your music doesn’t appear the same on both your Mac and iPhone. I’ll be happy to help with this.

It looks like you did a good job of isolating the issue to the ID tags. You may want to try updating the tags directly in iTunes on your Mac by right clicking the file and choosing "Convert ID3 Tags…”

Remove the files from your iPhone and sync them back over using iTunes and see how they look.

Let us know if this helps.

Cheers

It’s interesting the converting of ID3 tags worked on some of these but not others. Are you able to remove the songs from iTunes and then import them from the original source and try converting before making any changes to the metadata? If so, do that and see if that helps since this seems to be only affecting select albums & songs.

If this does not resolve the issue, you’ll want to reach out to Apple Support using the following link to continue to look into this with you:

Take care.

Hiya sterling,

So for one of the albums having this issue, converting the ID3 tags worked like a charm. However, for two of my albums (the Parcels one included) I had no luck. I attempted conversions to v2.4, v2.3, and v2.2 (the one that worked for the one album). v1.0 and v1.1 resulted in issues with the album artwork, so I abandoned that attempt. Do you have any other ideas on why this could be happening? Thank you so much for your help.
