Sidecar error - Unable to Connect - A miscellaneous error occurred (-6709)

When I try to connect to either my Late 2015 27" iMac or my 2019 MacBook Air to my 6th Generation iPad using Sidecar, I get the following error.

Unable to Connect to "Miles' iPad"

A miscellaneous error occurred (-6709).

Any ideas?

I had a lot of issues before getting to this error, the main reason being I hadn't realised you not only have to be signed in with the same account for both devices, but you also have to be signed into iCloud as well (I hadn't enabled iCloud on my mac). After I did that the iPad displayed as a connectable device, but I got the '-6709' error.

To resolve it I rebooted my both my mac and iPad. I then opened settings on both devices. Under my account on my iPad (just under settings at the top left) I had a notification to re-enter my username/password. Once I did that I tried again to connect and it worked.

Some solutions seem to work for some, others for others, and some still not at all. After several frustrating sessions of none of the solutions working for me in trying to pair 6-gen iPad with my 2017 MacBook Pro, I got a very helpful online connection with Apple support. He walked me through several tries at rechecking login, Apple-account status, etc: none worked. Finally he led me to check my settings in the user dialog: go to your login icon or name, on the drop down select "Users and Groups Preferences." On your main user page, the primary view is "password," change password. BUT click on the other button, "login items." I had two or three items show up (including a VPN auto-run item). Deleted all of these, and (after two days and several hours of trying) connected right away to the iPad under Airplay Display in monitor setting. Thanks for patient and persistent help from Apple support.

Adding more info:

I have a 27`` 2015 iMac (which is supposed to be supported) and an iPad Air(3rd gen). That same iPad was paired successfully with my other Mac, which is a Macbook Pro and Sidecar works perfectly. However when trying to enable SideCar on the iMac, I get the infamous -6709 error with the following appearing in the logs:

Any ideas?

Thanks!
