Hi all,

If you have tried all these things and things still don't work then you may find my experience helpful.

Upon upgrading my Macbook Pro (2012) to Catalina, I found I couldn't gain any access to the internet on Safari or use anything that required the internet, such as Mail, Skype etc... I too had a Wifi connection but no internet access. When Safari was opened, it showed an error message saying the page couldn't be displayed and that it couldn't authorise the content. I tried all methods previously mentioned and spent hours talking to Apple support and our IT department, who couldn't figure it out.

After a bit of my own digging, I found that a common problem that occurs with Macs after a Software updates is that 3rd party anti-virus software can interfere with things like internet connection. I found that my old Intego - ContentBarrier software (which I don't even use anymore, but haven't uninstalled yet) was blocking access to the internet after the upgrade to Catalina. Once I opened on the app, it asked me authorise Internet access, which restored full function of Safari and other apps. This needs to be done every time I connect to a new Wifi/turn my Mac on, I presume until I uninstall the ContentBarrier app.

I hope this helps!

My problem is intermittent and can be temporarily cleared by disabling wifi and re-enable it. However it returns. Have tried to re-create location, safe boot, renew DHCP in trying to resolve the problem.

When problem occur, app cannot connect to the internet but the wifi logo indicate it is still on. A closer look on the network configuration shows the network mask had been changed from

xxx.xxx.240.0 to xxx.xxx.0.0

Hopefully someone can identify the issue more closely based on this information.

Renewing the DHCP lease does not resolve the problem. The hardware configuration is as follows

MBP mid 2014

Cisco wifi running WPA2 Enterprise

My reply is simple. What use to be a great company (Apple) now sucks. It's back to the Microsoft days. I have spent endless hours trying to solve this wifi issue. I see some of the suggestions and they are all ridiculous. Apple, like many don't know the meaning of regression testing. Let the consumer do it and release 25 updates. Where is Steve Jobs when you need him.

I am also having this issue, but only with one of my laptops. I have a Mid 2015 MacBook Pro that I upgraded to Catalina and it is working 100% fine.

I also have a newer 2018 MacBook Pro which is the one having all the issues. I have tried creating a new network location, no luck. I have tried rebooting in safe mode, also no luck. I have no 3rd party antivirus, VPN, or firewall applications on this machine. I have tried removing and re-adding my wifi network, no luck. I am at a dead end.

I am left wondering if it might be a hardware issue. My old macbook is great with Catalina, my new one, not so much.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks!

Brian
