2018 Mac Mini dead following Catalina Upgrade

I have installed the upgrade to Catalina, it restarted, I entered my password to allow it to continue, it stated “installing, 25 minutes...”.

I returned to it an hour later thinking it had gone to sleep. Nothing. No response from keyboard or mouse.

I powered off and back on. Nothing. No display, just the power LED staying on.

No recovery mode with keyboard key presses, nothing at all. Any ideas please?

I solved this by connecting a different monitor (also by HDMI). It was an old '1080p' monitor.

This allowed me to boot and go through the initial logon process.

I then reconnected my 4k display and all is working well.

I've just had this issue occur again with the minor Catalina update released.

Again following the restart - it just doesn't give any display at all.

I got it working again by plugging it in to a 1080p monitor (rather than my 4k), and restarting.

I did notice when I connected it back to my 4K monitor I had a message stating that the resolution was not supported, and was a bizarre non-standard resolution (I didn't have time to note down the exact resolution).

Anyone else with this issue?
