Sending video/ WiFi cellular issue

When I go to send a normal 1 minute video filmed on my iPhone XS MAX to someone on iMessage over WiFi connection it questions me and asks me if I want to wait until I am connected to WiFi as it’s a large file and could use a lot of my cellular data (see picture) Even if I turn cellular off it says it and all my videos are sent at such a low resolution they’re hardly visible by the time they arrive at the other end. Has anyone got any ideas as to what’s going on?? I cannot seem to rectify this no matter what I do. Cheers.

Thanks for posting to the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like this message keeps appearing even with cellular data turned off for sending videos. I'll do what I can to help.


Here are some suggestions:

  • You are correct that this message will display when sending large amounts of data. Check Settings > Message > Low Quality Image Mode is turned off.
  • Another setting to check is Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options and turn off Low Data Mode.
  • Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you're still seeing the message, try these steps to restore software to the iPhone:

  1. Back up the iPhone: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
  2. Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings
  3. Test the iPhone set up as new to see if the same thing happens. If it doesn't, restore the backup: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup
