mail app move button is gone after update to 13.1.2

Previously, when i opened an email, there was a button at the bottom of the screen to move the email to a folder. Mail was smart, it suggested the folder based on historical data.

Currently the move button is gone (bottom bar is almost empty, with only delete and reply) I need to swipe, choose move and there is no suggestion for the folder.

Please suggest a solution before i am forced to go to outlook mail client.

Lawrence, that is how it used to work before iOS 13. Now it doesn’t. But on another thread someone answered me that you can long press single emails to bring up a menu on which you can select ‘move’ and the old folder suggestion then reappears. However that is still only for single emails as far as I can find, and on my iPhone SE the ‘move’ option is off the screen at the bottom of the menu so I need to scroll down the menu to it. So instead of multi selecting emails and two clicks later they were filed, now I have to use multiple gestures to file each one singly. But the menu option that i was shown from the other thread is better than scrolling down my long folder list for each email and inadvertently selecting emails due to the newly laggy scrolling.

While the removal of the Move Message button doesn’t make sense to me either, I found that customizing the Swipe Right function to Move Messages could be just as convenient as having the button at the bottom. To customize, tap on the Settings icon, Mail, Swipe Options (under Message List), then select Move Mail for Swipe Right, as shown in the screenshot below.

Swiping works while viewing the list of messages and while viewing the content of a message.

Hope this helps!

Hello EAZ1964,

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having trouble moving Mail on your iPhone after updating to iOS 13.1.2. I'd be happy to provide information that may help.

Take a look at this article: Use mailboxes to organize email on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The "Move your email messages to a mailbox" section may help.

If you're still unable to see the option to move your mail, reply with whether or not this happens with all email accounts or with one in particular.

Take care.

the main problem for me is the folder suggestions are gone so I need to scroll through my very long list of email folders for each email move when the appropriate folder used to just pop up as the suggested destination and it was really quick to deal with my daily inbox of a 30-40 emails. Now it is laborious and frustrating.

This is terrible, extra clicks for an action I do on every email. There is space as well as someone pointed out. Where is the UX on this? Didn't they look at usage? This should have been an on / off option in config as worst. Those who use this, us it all the time. The usability of iPhone has dropped with each ios release for the last 4 or so years. I had to update to ios13 and I regret every version I am now forced to update to. Horrible, truly horrible. Android, here we come. At least you are greener pastures for now.

Apple PLEASE CORRECT THIS. I was just forced by my company to upgrade my version and it is horrible! I utilize my phone for hundreds of emails a day and the new format is horrible. Already this morning I have accidentally hit the delete button and few times, and I cannot sort or reply as usual. The multiple buttons were way better than this collapsed version.

I totally agree - a frustrating change for something that didn’t need to be fiddled with, resulting in a now more laborious process to get the same result. Didn’t anyone at Apple test this on people outside of the company first before implementing it? Years of muscle memory is meaning lots of emails being deleted and then having to be recovered - SO frustrating. Apple, please put the Move Message back in and delete button back to the middle!!!
