Loudspeaker Grill Water Resistant??

Hey all, I’m wondering if damaging the speaker grill on the loudspeaker of my phone (the one with 6 holes to the right of the lightning port) would make my phone easily vulnerable to water damage now? I was using a needle to remove some gunk from one of the little openings and accidentally caught some of the mesh with the needle, pulling some of it up. I managed to gently push it back in and it looks and sounds fine, but I obviously damaged the mesh a bit. Does this grill provide much in the way of water resistance? It must be permeable it’s just mesh that’s full of little gaps that water could enter through normally (I assume). My understanding is that the speaker has some black adhesive all around it which is the real source of the water resistance.

I’m feeling worried since this is a brand new phone. Hoping it hasn’t lost its water resistance because of this. Even if some water can get into the speaker housing a little more easily now, it’s not gonna be able to reach the rest of the internals through the speaker is it?
