The compass app on my series 5 Apple Watch keeps opening. I am not opening the app. I turned off the Always On since my battery was draining and now when I raise my wrist, it always shows the compass.

So I resolved this issue by going to the watch app then GENERAL then WAKE SCREEN then at the bottom there is an option for “On Screen Wake Show Last App” and I selected “Never Unless In Session” and then it stopped doing it

So I actually resolved this issue by opening the watch app then clicking GENERAL then scroll to the bottom and the option for ON SCREEN SHOW LAST APP and changed it to NEVER and it stopped doing it

I called Apple Support - they had me disconnect the watch from my phone, reset the watch, and reconnect to my phone. I haven’t had the compass open since but I also haven’t opened the app manually. She did inform me their techs were aware of the issue and she believes they are working on an update. 10/23/19.
Try: on your iPhone Watch App go to General and scroll down to "Background App Refresh" scroll to "Compass" and turn off.
Then open a different App on the watch, such as "Heart Rate" let it run a minute, then close it. Sometimes, I have to repeat the process a couple times initially, but it always works.
Try a reset by pressing in the crown and side button until you see the Apple logo, then release both.
Look for a watch face that has the compass in it. Get rid of the entire watch face. Run 4-5 apps and then stop them and stop them running in the background to flush the Apple Watch’s memory. That will probably stop the compass. As long as the app is in a watch face, even if it’s not a used face, the compass app is running.
Take the compass off your face and it solves the issue until we get a new update
Turn off and turn back on.
If your watch is linked to your iPhone
The settings default to your phone settings and will continue to show when looking at the face of your watch...no matter how many times you dismiss it.
Temporarily open a Analog Watch face which does not have location services for example the California watch face
So if we closed the app and switch off/on the watch the issue disappear, but once you open the compass app again, you will need to repeat the process. This was the only way that I could switch off the app.
I just reset my watch by holding down the crown & side button. It turned off the compass app but anytime I open it (by accident) defaults to compass. I was told too turn off background refresh to prevent it , but I always have that turned off. I went in individually & turned it off - still not working. Only temp fix is to keep resetting it. Anyway of removing the compass off the watch?
I'm having this problem too, only with golfpad.
Have rebooted both watch and phone, but still happens.
It only started yesterday. Because of bluetooth &/or gps it drains watch battery in couple of hours.
Haven't tried unpairing and re-pairing watch yet. It is next move.
No solutions yet that I’ve found. I honestly think it’s a software problem that Apple needs to address. I may be wrong. Also I don’t think that your loop would have anything to do with involuntarily opening the app.
