Remote app not working with Catalina. When will this be fixed. Massive problem for me

Remote app not working with Catalina. I have c 600GB of music on my iMac hard drive which is streamed upstairs to my study. This has been controlled by the remote app on my iPhone/iPad.

This is beyond annoying. When will this be fixed. This should have been sorted out before launch of catalina. I use this facility all the time and without it I cannot access my music.

An early reply would be appreciated

So we have an iMac with Catalina running that we are streaming music from. All 1800 CD:s are ripped there in Apple Lossless so we at least could stream in the same quality that the music was bought in.

Before when using Remote application on any of the family's iOS devices we had the benefit of not handling the actual files (significant larger than compressed formats, e.g. 10 times) only telling "iTunes" on the iMac, where to play and at what volume for each Airplay speaker.

If using iOS "Music" and home sharing feature, we either need to stream the actual file from iMac through the device and stress network and sluggish response as a result of large files and library. Second possibility is the stream compressed copies from the "cloud" and stream to speaker.

Neither of these choices are acceptable - We need an update of Remote for iTunes so it works with new Music application running on Catalina or just to add decent remote function through iOS Music!

As Apple claims to "Love music" and sees themselves as an innovative company with focus on making things nice and simple to use - I feel they missed out here. Maybe need to look at other solutions like Sonos, Roon...

While we are at it - Apple could (or should) also add the possibility to control Music running on one computer from another one e.g. iMac as server and MacBook Pro as client (not using "Shared screen") ;-)

This is fixed in 10.15.2 Beta (19C46a) I can confirm 100% functionality restored, but there is a hitch. In IOS remote app you will see the library that doesnt work, still wont. Click Settings>> Add an itunes library. Now the phone in music app on catalina will turn into a little Nano looking Remote icon, click it will display aility to enter 4 digit code. now in library list you will see your apple TVs and 2 ituens libraries, one will work, one wont. maybe home sharing option disable but then I think the apple tvs wont get to the content itself. so its not perfect yet but its back-ish.

I stopped using Retroactive because it created serious problems for syncing music from the computer. So I've gone back to Mojave. I had nothing but problems from the time I installed Catalina came out (Oct 7th) until I went back to Mojave (Nov 1st). Everything for me is back to normal. Thank goodness for Apple's Time Machine Backup. I don't plan on reinstalling Catalina any time soon!!

Rather than faff about reverting back to Mojave i took the plunge on Airfoil for Mac here https://rogueamoeba.com/store/

Its better than Remote as it does everything that did + allows you to tewak & fix sound lags between AirPlay speakers

Worth every one of the $34 as i can play & control from Mac, phone or Ipad, & much simpler than the Home App too. 👍

Yes, thank you for making the effort to help me with this work-around. It does work exceptionally. It doesn't control my MacOS Music library remotely, but it does let me push from my iOS Music and iOS Music library to remote speakers within my current configuration. For me, it's a moot point as to whether I push from the MacOS or the iOS as long as I can push to multiple speakers. This is a great workaround for my situation. Thank you so much. For those that wonder why we're discussing this app in this thread it is because it is a great work around to the loss of our MacOS/iOS Remote App function.

I could not agree more! The remote app and apple airplay was actually my way into the apple world. I kind of did rely on apple, that once such a comfortable standard is established it will never be taken away.

since the Catalina "upgrade" I have lost the comfort to control my music via the remote app. To use the benefit of AirPlay and to share my huge music library I need to go to my iMac instead of using mobile devices such as iPhone and iPad to control the music.

Very annoying. In addition I am also not happy, that Music (iTunes) does not allow genres search anymore.

I do hope, that apple does have an understanding and does also respect the decision of a user, who will not sign up for the apple music service. It feels good to own the music you love, much better than renting it.

Catalina is a giant mess. So many problems and lost functions that should NOT have gone.

Did they even bother doing testing with Catalina? Seems like someone was in a big rush to get this lousy update out!

I just installed the latest update for Catalina... at first the remote app still didn’t work, but I succeeded in getting full functionality: you need to connect the remote app manually and not with home sharing.

to do this: open remote app => tap settings in upper right corner => add iTunes library => in the music app in your Mac: look for the remote app symbol (arrow with your iPhone name) and enter the 4 digits and you are ready to use the remote app...

The remote app is fixed in macOS 10.15.2 Catalina ! Very good’news on iOS.

BUT unfortunately it doesn’t work with remote app running on my iPad with IPadOs v13.3.

When I open remote app on my iPad => tap settings in upper right corner => add iTunes library nothing appears on remote app => can’t see the Mac library ....
