Does Catalina have Raid in Disk Utilities?

I have several Raid 1 drives. Would Catalina be able to read from the Raid 1 drives?

Would Catalina be able to save to the Raid 1 drives? (These are external, spinning, hard drives.)

Would I be able to set up Raid 1 drives?

Would I be able to repair Raid 1 drives in Catalina?

I can tell you that ~/System/Library/CoreServices/Applications no longer contains the RAID Utility.app which was present in Mojave.

I don't have one to test right now, but my impression is that if the RAID is controlled in the box, then it should be able to be read by Catalina-based systems, but the Catalina-based system will not control the RAID using the interfacing computer.

I do know that a lot of RAID box manufacturers offer software interfaces or that the RAID boxes can be interfaced by a web browser. The most recent RAID device I set up had an onboard controller and web interface, and it does interface over a network share but I can control it via screen sharing using its web interface.

Hope this helps.

It would probably be enough to get Catalina to read from it, but you'd have to familiarize yourself with the Terminal commands for interacting with the drives on a maintenance level. Terminal is picky about spelling and order-of-operations, but if you can find a tutorial I'm sure you could do it.

My advice would be to wait a little while, like another month or two, and track some online resources which talk about it to see if any problems arise (especially with drives which were formatted using a previous OS). That way you can plan for eventualities and won't have to downgrade back to a previous OS if things go sideways.

Good luck!!
