Here is what I learned from Canon Support:

Thank you for contacting Canon product support. I understand that you are inquiring about OS Catalina support for the imageFORMULA DR-2010M and I will be able to provide more information regarding your inquiry.

The DR-2010M is supported up to OS Sierra (10.12). The scanner will not be supported with OS Catalina. While considering the desire to provide the best possible support for Canon's current products in a timely manner, Canon must make decisions on which products to support when operating systems are introduced. These decisions are generally based on the age of the product and the number of product estimated to be still in use.

We understand, and sincerely apologize for the frustration this causes, but hope that you will understand our rationale.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Thank you for contacting Canon.

Apparently this is a fairly common problem with scanners. You should shop around for a third party app which will work with your scanner. Do a search and see what's available. You might check VueScan as they have apps for a lot of older scanners. A bit pricey, but they have a whole lot more features than the vendor's software. And still cheaper than buying a new scanner. That's what I did.
