Step counting without swinging arms

Is there a way to get the Apple Watch to count steps without you swinging your arms?

I like to combine my walk with two 5 lb weights on my hands, doing various exercises. I've found that this reduces the steps calculated by about 24%.

The accelerometer in the Apple Watch need to see the Apple Watch accelerate and decelerate. Holding your arm steady, no matter what your legs are doing does not provide the sensor input needed to trigger an acceleration/deceleration event.

You can take your watch off your arm and strap it to your leg, then you will have acceleration and deceleration.
