What is remote disk in Finder?

After I installed High Sierra, something called remote disk appeared in Finder under the 'Devices" category. What is this? The device is an imac, not a mac pro.

remote disc I have a 27" iMac running High Siera. I have a "remote disc" save and carry various files. In finder under "remote disc" the remote disc name(s) come and go. The disc name is listed and gives acces to the files contained on the remote. This does not always show. Why or what am I doing to cause this not to show.

Remote disc feature is not appearing on the finder sidebar of my 2018 Macbook Pro I have a 2018 Macbook Pro and the 'remote disc' feature (found on the finder sidebar) is not appearing anymore. I recall it being apart of previous macOS, but suddenly it is not there anymore. Why is the feature no longer there? Is there a way to get it back?

Remote disk allows you to access CD/DVDs that are not on your Mac remotely. This pops up sometimes, I can't tell you why but it is not malicious or any sign of a problem. Just eject it and move on.
