I’ve found that turning on and off the speakerphone function during the call solves it which means it’s not a physical problem. If I hold it vertically facing the screen it happens a lot more than if I hold it horizontally and speak into the bottom about 6” from the phone as well.

I think part of the problem is that we’re balancing the bottom of the phone with our finger and it’s covering the speakers. I don’t know. That’s the only thing I can think of. But this issue has not been resolved for me. For the price of this phone, it should work pretty flawlessly.

At first I thought it was the case because it had no holes at the bottom, so it was covering the speaker and mic, but even without it there would be an echo. So I took my phone during the week of purchase to T-Mobile and the manager was not helpful at all. He kept telling me it’s normal, it happens sometimes, it’s a network problem, the phone is not defective. But he told me my only options were to send it to Apple or Get a different one with my insurance. He didn’t even try to help, nor touched my phone at all!

The closest Apple store to my town is 2 hrs away, so I took it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy instead. They checked my phone and even though I saw the screen showed “issues found” they said the phone was working properly, but they could send it out to Apple to have it checked and it would take about a week. I work from my phone, so I can’t afford to be without it for a week. It was very frustrating because until this day, there is no solution to this problem online.

I finally visited an Apple Store and thank God the associate knew what he was doing! He took my phone for a few minutes, came back and told me there were no problems with the device, but he had me reset my network settings. IT FIXED THE ISSUE! I can’t believe it was that simple and no one could help me before. I almost purchased a new phone.

It has been months since that day and just a few days ago the echo came back, but it went away by resetting the network settings again.

Before you waste more money on another phone or your time waiting for them to fix your phone, TRY RESETTING YOUR NETWORK SETTINGS.

Thanks, Alevillasenor, thanks so much for this information, you're the second person that I've read to post this suggestion, and my apologies to the folks on this thread for forgetting to include this as a technique that had been mentioned with successful results earlier when I tried to post an informal "summary" - it just slipped my mind.

We are trying this out on a number of 11s but as I'm not the owner (rather the one who hears the echo) I can't test it out. I'll postresults on this thread once I find out.

Hi Karen,

Thanks for posting this, first report I've seen that this behavior is recurring on the 11 Pro's as well as the 11's. If you haven't already, please go back through this very long thread (started Oct 2019). While I know of no blanket solutions, some folks have found workarounds, such as resetting Network settings, quitting all other apps besides Phone, holding the phone upright with speakers pointed skyward, and other steps. If you have any success, please help the rest of us and post it here. - TX

I had a Regular fashion case and I just purchased an IPhone case and the problem I was having (breaking up sound on other end while using speaker phone) was solved. The bottom of the case is open.- Not just holes for the speakers. I do still hear a little feedback occasionally on my end if they are on their speaker phone

Karen you will have to put in all the passwords for whatever WiFi you have stored on your phone. That’s it. It basically refreshes the internet connections to your phone. And you won’t have to call your carrier to do it. Your phone will restart. Once it has restarted you will have to connect to your WiFi and put in the password.

I concur. $950 for a phone that I despise. I was actually fine with my SE unitl the battery would not hold more than an hour charge and I broke my mophie. Apple has gone so far downhill it is very disappointing. I must use speaker phone 50% of the time for work and I keep hoping "Crapple" (my new name for Apple) will come up with a fix. I only purchased the 11 because it had Night Mode for pictures and I have already had issues wth a blue dot in many pictures. Then on top of it all, I hate the Face recognition. I Purchased shortly before we all had to wear masks (did not like it before and now worse). So frustrated that I am ready to suck it up and lose $400 to get a model without face recogition and no problems with the speaker. I really had high hopes that were completley crushed by my continuous problems with this iphone 11... that started on day one (and of course apple will not allow me to return even though it is a "lemon". I spent hours on the phone with Apple too and absolutley no help. I did figure out that the Echo problem is worse if I rest the phone on my lap or stomach. It mostly goes away if I lay it sideways on a table or desk next to me. However I cannot usually do that. Nor can I hold it upside down! I use Bluetooth when I can now. However, I use it so much that even when I remove the bluetooth device, it still feels like it is in my ear. So I would prefer the speaker when possible. It wourked great on the much older SE and 7. Unfortunatley, it is rarely possible to use speaker with this phone. DO NOT BUY IT until Capple fixes the problem. IT is extremley annoying to the person on the other end. Night mode and face recognition are dissapointing too! And not only because of the mask use. And I have tried several different cases and also used no case. It makes absolutley no difference. I wish Crapple would stop making excuses and fix the problem. Or at least let us downgrade to the model below the 11 for no addtional price. PLEASE!

Although it may be an inconvenience it should help if earphones are used. Any type should do even a bluetooth headset. The bluetooth will give a slight time lag in the receive to send signal and possibly eliminate the echo. It is a software problem in that there is no lagtime in the signals and that produces the echo because the microphone is picking up the speakers in realtime. The case, if you use one, 'increases' the sound of the speakers by bouncing it back toward the microphones. Does this happen with wireless earbuds?

I am on my 3rd IPhone 11 all phones had the same speaker issue. I do not get an echo but my phone cuts out.

Only when I use the speaker phone, my voice cuts in and out ~ the other person is only able to hear every few words.

Although I use one, it is not the Otter box. I tried the phone without the case and it is still happening.

help, please.

I don't have an iPhone 11 so this is a long shot at finding an answer. As it seems that the most probable causes have been explored by this forum I was just wondering if anyone had tried taking their phone to another provider vendors place of business and have them try a call from your phone with their chip installed. It seems like there might be something incompatible with the service and it might not help or hinder your cause to try another provider to see if anything improves. Just saying.

Interesting suggestion, and thank you. However, I happened to switch from AT&T to Sprectrum last month and I still have the problem. The only thing that helps is making sure the bottom speakers are not covered. I will leave the phone on my desk when using the speaker while working. And I will even turn the phone upside down so the speakers are pointing up when I rest it on my lap while using the speaker. Best solution is to use bluetooth instead of speaker. But I do not like to have it in my ear for hours each day (work related).

Also, my friend and his wife both purchased an iPhone 11 a couple of months ago, and they do not have this problem. He even keeps his phone in an OtterBox case. The speakers are completely covered and it sounds great.
