Can you migrate files from a windows backup drive (western digital passport) to a Mac?

Can you migrate files that were on a Windows formatted Western Digital Passport drive to a new Mac? My windows machine crashed and I have a backup that I would like to move the files over to a new Mac. HELP!

The only way to access a time capsule backup is via time machine or migration assistant. Time machine to my knowledge only works for the computer which was being backed up. transfer files from external backup; time machine I backed up my old macbook air (2014, big sur 11.5) to an external drive via time machine. I want those files on my macbook pro (2020, big sur 11.6). How do I move them from the external drive to my newer macbook? if not move them, at least access them? In the alternative, can I backup my macbook air to icloud and grab the files I need that way. When I set up my macbook pro, it did the put your computer next to it for setup thing. Did that get my files? I see some but don't want to wipe my macbook air for trade it in without being sure. Thanks.

Yea' plug it into your iMac and try. If it is formatted FAT-32 or exFat, then your Mac should be able to read and write to the drive. If it is formatted NTFS, then you still should be able to read but not write to the drive.
