Font Crash on Catlina

Plopped a title into the timeline and tried changing the font, instant crash-to-desktop. No matter if I select text, don't select text, try a different title style, all of it. Any time I try to change the font - by clicking the "Font" title in the inspector, the moment I click I see desktop (not even a pull-down menu).

I am using an existing timeline with a project that Final Cut X "Updated" after app and system updates and upgrade. Note that I can change the text copy, not the font (in that order).

Catalina 10.15

Final Cut 10.4.7

I don't know if this is a Catalina issue or a Final Cut X issue. I'd file a bug report to Apple, but I don't see any feedback links, etc.

Okay, I managed to fix it.

Apparently, the latest FCPX update (in prep for Catalina) combined with the Catalina OS upgrade did something. So, to fix it, I used an app called TrashMe that removes an app and every related file associated it with it to "scrub" the system clean. Then I downloaded FCPX from the App Store, left all preferences at their defaults and then loaded up the "problem" project.

Now the font menu works; no crash to desktop.

TL;DR: If anyone is running into this issue: *completely* remove Final Cut Pro X (10.4.7) - meaning every associated file (Best to use a until like AppZapper or TrashMe to do so) - then re-download FCPX from the App Store. :)

Catalina has a lot of bugs. I'm having a lot of various issues with not just FCPX, but Motion, Compressor, Logic, Pages, etc.

Report it for sure, as Tom said.

But also, try selecting everything in the Timeline, copy, create a new Project Timeline and paste, try changing the font again. May not work, but worth a try.

And what Tom said, I'd do that first.

That's helpful information and leads me onto the path of looking into the Catalina system itself (anything ending with dot-zero, right?) :) I did submit a bug report to Apple, though I'll keep on it myself.

I'll try removing all fonts then reinstalling system-only fonts and see if that changes anything (if not, then it has to do with FCP updating the project) - if I do find an answer/work-around, I'll post an update here also for anyone else that may run into this.

Thank you for the location of that feedback link, I *knew* it "used" to be there :)

Checked Font Book, there are no icons, though if you mean typefaces, all are there and no "null blocks". The default font for the title style I was using is Futura, and even checked and verified that font. I do not believe it is a font issue. In the inspector, the moment I click the Font menu it is instant desktop - as though that word "Font" is a button to show the desktop in a fraction of a fraction of a second. When I say instantaneous, I mean literally instantaneous.

Thank you for you reply, I do not expect a solution from the communities. I suppose it's more of a "Attention everyone, this is happening to me and it may to you, also" kind of post.

I'll submit that feedback and good call of checking the Font Book. I admit, I hadn't;t thought of that.
