Lost files after macOS Catalina upgrade

I upgraded to Catalina and have lost 12 folders/files from my HD. How do I get these back?

Updated and lost folder on hard drive. Help I just noticed that a folders I had on my hard drive are gone. Is it due to updating to Catalina??? How do I recover lost folders???? Thanks

"Upgrade" to Catalina lost my files previously stored on the hard drive In the previous upgrade my former hard drive files were accessible through a Relocated Items folder. It was ponderous but they were still there. In Catalina that same folder has nothing. Where are my years of critical files and how to I get them back?

Well, I've had a folder system on first floppies and later hard drives for 37 years and it has always worked great, until today. You may think users having their own folders is a bad idea, but everyone uses their computer in a different way and should have the right to do so. Users don't have to think every idea a programmer gets is good, and system developers need to take users' wishes into account - or they won't have any. :-)

Thanks Luis, for a moment I thought I was really screwed. Can I reasonably assume that I can move the contents of the relocated item folder to any place I want?

Thanks Louis. This was resolved quite some time ago and was marked resolved. I don't know why it is still showing as active.

You need to provide more information.

What documents are these? Does it happen with any type of document, or with specific documents (eg pdf, word...).

Where are these documents stored? In your Documents folder? Somewhere else?

backup dir is :/System/Volumes/Data/Users/Shared/Relocated\ Items/Security/
