No VO2 Max Since Watch OS 6 update

Hi folks! I have an Apple Watch 4 and prior to the watch OS 6 update had multiple recordings of vo2 max from my outdoor runs. Since then, nada. Last recorded vo2 max was September 22. I have done a number of outdoor runs since then. I reset the watch and that didn’t fix it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I fixed it :) I actually reset the watch to factory defaults and restored a backup. V02 max is now back. Give that a try. I was told that a reset was accomplished by holding down the crown and the other button on that side but this is a more complete reset. Let me know if this works for you.

I think the key is to make sure you have synced the watch and that you restore it from backup. I was concerned about restoring the backup but wanted to give it a try. Remember, though, that you will not have V02max from previous runs suddenly appear. You will need to go for another run of at least 20 minutes for it to appear. In my case I did a 1 hour run workout followed by a 20 minute walk workout (just in case) and both recorded V02max. Good luck!

Hmmm. Which wrist strap are you using? The sport loop can go on tight to ensure that the watch doesn’t move during the run.

VO2 max requires an outdoor run/walk, at least 20 minute workout and a consistent heart rate. If your watch is moving you won’t get a good heart rate reading (in my experience at least) and no VO2 max.

Same here.

I used to have a VO2 Max record after each and every outdoor walk, right up until I updated to iOS13 and watchOS 6. Nothing since.

I updated this morning to iOS 13.2 and watchOS 6.1, and still no VO2 Max.

I have tried every trick and every tip: I have reset, unpaired and paired again; I have retarted both the iPhone and the watch, checked and reset location data, but still no VO2 Max.

I keep hoping Apple will do something (there are several discussions about it here) but they don't seem to be bothered.

This sounds like a permissions error. I know that the thought is abhorrent, but I wonder about doing a clean install of your iPhone and the watch at the same time but not deleting any previous health data. I assume you have googled the watch not being a data source in iphone? Your problem sounds like it originates from a different cause than some of the other folks.

I have been in touch with Apple Support in Ireland (do they cover Europe?)

They asked me to install a test profile on my Watch, then I sent them a data file after I used the Watch for a 'normal' walk.

The response has been... well...

THEM: "You have to have 180 days of exercise data before it registers on the watch."

ME: "You're referring to Trends and I am asking about daily data, which I used to get, but am not getting any more."

THEM: ... silence for the past 3 weeks.

Still no VO2 Max data.

Thanks for the tip.

I have tried that and all other tips mentioned in the various threads over the last few months (there are quite a few threads about "missing" VO2 Max).

In my case, nothing has worked.

I have unpaired, re-paired, removed, uninstalled, re-installed... I have tried it all!

I have reset as a new Watch (twice, and 'lost' all data twice) and still, my Watch is not listed as a data source under the Vo2 Max tab in Apple Health.
