Why is my airport extreme is overheating
Why is my airport extreme still overheating even if i turned it off for a whole day?
Is it really overheating?
Put your hand on the top .. it should be barely above ambient.
Most of the time it is just a bad sensor or setting.
Do you have the tower model Extreme? These have a bug in the network sharing..
Go to the disks tab and turn off sharing.. save the change and restart.
BTW I don't know how or why this works.. I suspect it has nothing to do with sharing and if you changed the DNS setting on the Internet tab the overheat would also go away.
It can be physical problem of blocked fan.. but then you will feel the heat and hear the fan roar but no air is moving.
If earlier model tell me which one as that is unusual.
