Problems with Acer Monitor and my Macbook Pro.

I have purchased a new Acer monitor for use with my Macbook Pro 2014-15-ish retina display model. Connecting via HDMI cable. When I start the macbook up with the Acer connected my desktop displays perfectly on it for 5 sec or so then it goes off saying "No Signal"?? Please Help??

Safe Mode may be helpful for this issue (hold shift at startup).

Safe mode loads a small amount of software, then does a five-minute disk repair. Then it loads a very small number of Apple-only extensions, NOT including graphics acceleration, and boots up to the login screen. You will need your userid and password to proceed. Safe Mode takes defaults for as much as it possibly can, so it will boot up with a very low resolution.

Screen re-draw will be wonky and slow, but ultimately correct. I would expect the display to be stable at this lower resolution.

Changes you make in Safe Mode will "stick" in regular mode, so you can experiment with higher resolutions, and save one that works and is stable.

Restarting in regular mode takes a small amount of extra time [once] as certain system caches are rebuilt.

Hi Murf-1,

Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems there is trouble with the external display recognizing signal from the MacBook Pro. I would recommend you use this article to help troubleshoot the issue.

Hi Grant, Thanks for the suggestion. I did try all different configurations, I tried mirroring and extended desktop configurations, tried switching the main monitor between both monitors. None of this made any difference. I tried a number of different HDMI cables. The screen works fine connected to my desktop PC with the HDMI cable and works well with my wifes newer model mackbook via HDMI. Currently I was able to get it connected using a miniport - VGA adaptor then VGA cable to the monitor. Its working but I would prefer to get the HDMI working if possible.
