Xcode doesn't upgrade under OS catalina

Upgraded to Catalina. Sys pref tells me there is an Xcode upgrade. When upgrade initiated process halts at 75 % stops and starts allover again. This repeats at infinitum until message appear that upgrade is not possible. Knoen problem?

Xcode update via Appstore fails (after installing Catalina) Yesterday I received 3 updates via AppStore as shown in the screenshot: 2/3 could be installed, but the update for Xcode didn't work. The terminal command `sudo softwareupdate -l` doesn't show any available updates. But I'm not sure if softwareupdate only shows system updates usually installed via "Software Update" in "System Preferences". I tried the update for Xcode approx. 10 times since yesterday and also signed in and out with apple id multiple times. Xcode can't open because it is updating I have a mac-mini (late 2014) running Monterey 12.3.1. Since 12.3.1 installed (a couple of weeks ago) I haven't been able to open Xcode. The message "You can't open the application 'Xcode' because it is being updated." appears. I've shutdown the machine down and restarted it - no change. Gone to the App store and tried to download Xcode again. It never completes. Just the line circling for hours. Is it time upgrade my machine?

Xcode stuck updating Xcode is stuck updating. I don't see it in the activity monitor to be able to end the process. How can I resolve this. Its been this way for a week I think. I also believe it occurred when the latest Mac Update got installed.

Two possible fixes:

Move the current Xcode app to trash, restart and download the new version from the App Store.
Download the last Xcode app from Apple's Developer website: https://download.developer.apple.com/Developer_Tools/Xcode_11.1/Xcode_11.1.xip
