iCloud Music not updating on my Mac

I own a MacBook Air (2017) and I recently updated the OS to macOS Catalina. However, when I finished updating my Mac and tried to run the new "Music" app (recently "iTunes"). I got a notification when I first pulled it up saying this: "Genius results can’t be updated right now. An internal server error occurred. Please try again later. This message will be dismissed in 30 seconds." *Photo 1* So I tried closing the app and opening it back up to see if that notification still pulls up and unfortunately it did. I tried to look it up & wasn't finding many answers that seemed to fix it but I saw all my music & playlists were there so I thought everything was fine. After a couple of days (Still getting the notification when I open "Music") I notice that some songs won't play, their greyed out inside my playlists. I began going through my playlists & Library now and realized that its over like half my music (over 1000 songs in my music, so a significant amount are non-playable). *Photos 2, 3, & 4* Clicking on the greyed out songs does nothing, however if I search the song in Apple Music it lets me play it just fine). If someone could help me I would greatly appreciate it! I don't often listen to music on my Mac which is why I think it took me so long to realize it I think but I think its been like this since the update. I added some screenshots of the things I explained and also left some of my screenshots for my Music Preferences incase I get asked about those too. *Photos 5, 6, 7, & 8*

I was able to find this solution that worked for me (from here):

  1. Back up your music and move it out of Music folder
  2. Open ~/Library and delete any folders with "Music" or "iTunes" in the name
  3. Repeat for ~/Library/Caches
  4. Restart & check the Music app. It should now be working correctly.

To get my backed-up downloaded music back in, I went to the Files tab in the Music Preferences and reset the Music Media folder location, then moved the old music back in by dragging it into the "Automatically Add to Music" folder in ~/Music/Music/Media.

Hope that is helpful!

I'm having this issue (or a similar one) as well.

The Music app actually worked fine when I first upgraded to Catalina—but a couple days ago, seemingly out of nowhere, my whole Apple Music library disappeared. I found 'Sync Library' unchecked in the Preferences, and when I reenabled it, I get the error message you mentioned here ("Genius results can’t be updated right now. An internal server error occurred") and my library does not come up. In the bottom corner of the window, I see "An error occurred" like in your screenshots.

I recently changed the email address of my Apple ID—this is the only thing I can think of that changed around the time this issue started coming up. I'm curious if you'd done the same, @charless_t?

For some reason a couple of days ago when I turned on my mac it said it had been updated overnight to MacOS Catalina 10.15. That means that it updated it to the newest version when it came out & I did it, then updated to the same version a week later? It was confusing because the OS number is the same as it was before. Anyway, when turning it back on it made me go through setting up my mac again like it did the first time (the set up that asks to share information to the app developers, asking if u want to turn on screen time/introducing screen time to mac, and stuff like that) When I finished going through that I logged in & opened “Music”. The iCloud sync works now & so does Genius. I don’t know why my mac did what it did or even what i did but it works now!
