Why is Apple Mail rearranging my mailboxes after I manually move them.

I use apple mail to access about 7 email addresses. I have always manually moved them in my Inbox to the order in which makes sense for my workflow and that has always worked.

Now, every time I log-into mail on my MacBook, the inboxes are arranged in a very random order. HELP! the OCD in me is going crazy!

I just got off the phone w/ Apple support on this. While this did not appear to be a known issue for them, here is what they had me do:

Go to System Prefs>Internet Accounts

Uncheck "Mail" for each of the accounts I use in Mail

Recheck "Mail" for each, but in the order in which I want to see them in my master inbox

Close and reopen Mail

So far, this is working but I need to monitor this throughout the day to see if it holds up. Fingers crossed.

My accounts are still in the right order after a couple of months, since I used the method given a few pages back by E-I-M. Apparently this is no good if you use google contacts or calendars, and somebody expressed security concerns. I have had no problems. The process took me about 20 minutes for 7 mailboxes and caused no ill effects for me. I have posted about this since but, because I included some mild and politely expressed criticism, my post was deleted.

Just an update on my Apple April support ticket -

When I tried to check on it today, I discovered it EXPIRED, without them addressing the issue or responding with an update after the June inquiry I made. ARGH!

I had to start over, opening ANOTHER ticket with instructions to catch it on a recording to upload.

So, joy, I supposed to watch it and miraculously record as it may occur. smh

Good news! Hope it stays fixed!

I share your feeling of disappointment; I felt really let down by the persistence of this issue. I know it would seem trivial to some people, but anybody who has come looking for this discussion will have felt some pain from it.

I must note that the problem arose BEFORE Catalina; I remember hoping that updating to Catalina would fix it!

I am having the same issue and when you contact support they think its about how to reorder your inbox or how to move mail messages around, such as into folders etc....

NO!! I am not a newbie computer user, I know how to really use my MacBook and go deep into settings and have not been able to solve this for months.

It's exactly how its been stated by other people.......

You sort your "Inbox" email accounts in the order you would like for them to appear on the left side pane window, and then without even closing the application or doing anything at all, after some time. the inboxes are randomly sorted.

With no explanation or reason of why they continue to reorder themselves every single day, multiple times per day.

Mac Mail on Mac keeps rearranging mailboxes randomly! FIX THIS!

I completely understand. I manage social media for a National organization with multiple Twitter accounts for chapters across the Nation. Of course each has a gmail address. Absolutely maddening what I’ve dealt with all year.

if you read my previous responses you’ll know I’ve had 2 separate open tickets with Apple. First expired after 6 months so they opened another. Had me jump through hoops AGAIN providing detailed information including video screenshots. Crickets. No response after all that work.

first time Apple was a total fail support wise.

Thanks for your effort though!.......its people like you that keep bugging them about this that ends up helping us all.....

As I know its a lot of time that goes into dealing with any support channel........so I resist trying to deal with them, they always take you through a protocol of steps before really understanding the issue.

This has been maddening nonetheless
